JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Aisha “A. Life” Gant, author of Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain
(Eborya Publishing)

(One of the first ten people to comment on A. Life’s author interview will win a free copy of Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain.)

Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain is a novel about four women: Charlene, a church-going woman who is married to an adulterous preacher; Denise, an exotic dancer who eventually finds out her “best customer” holds the title of her rapist; Michelle, the wife of an abusive, jobless, porn addict; and Katrina, a successful businesswoman who secretly has abortions to maintain her status.

All of them lead totally different lives while unknowingly wearing the same mask. Each woman believes no one else can see or feel what she is going through. Each woman will individually find out that the painful wounds she is experiencing are deep enough to be seen and felt by the world.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain?

A. Life: At first, the idea to write Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain came from within. Then I realized that the issues were globally problematic. Although the main characters in my book are women, men suffer from some of the same issues.

The main issue I speak of is the fact that we all, in some form or another, hide behind the walls of wounds (whether physical, emotional, etc.) in hopes that nobody sees or knows the truth behind the mask.

Joey Pinkney: What sets Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain apart from other novels in its genre?

AL: There are many Christian Fiction books available, and I have so many favorites that I can’t begin to name. However, after finishing them, I was left with nothing more than a good book. In my works, I set out to change that.

Not only will the reader have read a good book but will be inspired to change for the better. The reader will be able to relate to one or more of the characters. Since the lives of the characters are displayed from a painful start to a victorious finish, the reader can run with a renewed sense of victory.

Joey Pinkney: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain getting out to the public?

AL: My keys are: “Whatever it takes!”, “Quitting IS NOT AN OPTION!” and “If it doesn’t, first, make me happy and, second, make me money-and in that order, I don’t do it!” But above all else, I sincerely believe that “With God, All things are Possible!”

Joey Pinkney: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain?

AL: For this particular book, it took a combined time of about 6-8 months because I wear so many hats. I do not write full-time, but I do write almost every day.

Joey Pinkney: What’s next for Aisha “A. Life” Gant?

AL: Aside from the fact that the next novel is always ready to explode out of my mental belly, I have completed the stage play for Secret Wounds and Hidden Pain and will continue to market the book and begin casting for the play. I do plan on two more releases for 2010.
