5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Lorieen D. Henry, author of There Is A Miracle in 21: God Completes
“There is a Miracle in 21: God Completes” is designed to encourage, inspire and motivate others by sharing my struggles. It’s a book of HOPE! Simply stated, “It is my therapy with God”.
Whether I’m sharing feelings of inadequacy, confessing faults, or sharing words of encouragement, I do it to glorify God. I know that if God is glorified, He will ensure the book reaches those who need its message.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “There Is A Miracle in 21: God Completes”?
Lorieen D. Henry: My inspiration came from my desire to change/improve. I didn’t want to continue the cycle of madness. I was spiraling because I was discontent after leaving a successful military career. I knew it was time to leave, but I wasn’t content with the changes that God had allowed.
I felt like I was losing myself. Thus, I set out on a single 21 day journey that ended up being a series of seven 21 day journeys over 9 months. I wanted a quick fix, but God chose for me to journey through the experience in its entirety. Thus He revealed, “Pain pounds out your purpose and propels you to your destiny”!
JP: What sets “There Is A Miracle in 21″ apart from other books in the same genre?
LDH: “There Is A Miracle in 21” provides a mirror! At some point in the book, you will see yourself. Everything in the book won’t pertain to you or someone you know. Thus, God will speak to your situation at some point in the book.
I share bits of my story, but I also wrote on topics that God dropped in my spirit out of the blue. For example, I have never been abused, but I touch on that in my devotional chapter (5). I have had thoughts of suicide, but I tackle it from an angle of great perspective.
Sometimes, we find it taboo to talk about the real issues. I talk about the real issues without the sugar. I was a Mess, and by my admission, I can receive the Miracle that God has in store for me. It’s my therapy, but you will find yourself releasing weight because you can relate.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “There Is A Miracle in 21″ getting out to the public?
LDH: Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.” I seek as well as pour my heart out to God. God directs me as to what marketing tools to use, what FB groups to join and who I surround myself with.
Word-of-mouth is working throughout my community as well as my hometown. Through connections with seasoned authors, networking with the FB group KICKSTART, connecting with Promoting Purpose Magazine, Cyrus Webb and yourself helps tremendously. However, when it’s all said and done, “I TRUST GOD TO COMPLETE!”
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish “There Is A Miracle in 21″?
LDH: WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! PRAY AND WRITE SOME MORE! I write my feelings whatever they may be. Sometimes, it is a must that I vent, and writing is a great place to start. Once I start writing, through prayer, the Holy Spirit edits what does and does not belong.
So here it is in steps! Step 1: Write everything I want to write, everything that’s on my heart. Step 2: Pray about everything I wrote and ask God for guidance. Step 3: REWRITE! REWRITE! REWRITE! Step 4: Lift my work before the Lord as an offering. Step 5: Have my work professionally edited. Step 6: Read my work again to ensure the message that God wants delivered was not lost. Step 7: Wait for God’s sign to proceed with publishing.
My book journey took 21 months!
JP: What’s next for Lorieen D. Henry?
LDH: You can look for my 3rd title: “Seasoned for this Season” in December 2013. It will encourage readers to make their dreams reality. I am working on my Masters in Secondary Education as well as my Christian Life Coach Certification.
