JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Queen B.G., author of Dealt the Wrong Hand
(G Street Chronicles)
Dealt the Wrong Hand is a story of a young girl that grew up in a sheltered home but was forced into the streets to fiend for herself and her siblings.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Dealt the Wrong Hand?
Queen B.G.: My inspiration came from witnessing hardships of people around me and wanting to be a voice for the people in those situations.
JP: What sets Dealt the Wrong Hand apart from other books in the same genre?
QBG: What sets my book apart from other books is that it’s not your everyday East Coast tale. My book takes you into the life of gang members on the West Coast and shows the raw and uncut version of how easily our youth is effected by it.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Dealt the Wrong Hand getting out to the public?
QBG: My keys to success are determination, patience, consistency and discipline.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Dealt the Wrong Hand?
QBG: My process for writing is to first outline the story, then build my characters, create my story, then finally write the synopsis. This trilogy started as one story and took me no time to get started but forever to finish. It took a total of six years to complete this project.
JP: What’s next for Queen B.G.?
QBG: The second part to Dealt the Wrong Hand is almost complete. I’m the President of Cali Connect, a conglomerate of authors on the West Coast promoting urban literature. I’m in the process of launching a non-profit organization geared toward helping underprivileged kids.

Writing this book had to be difficult at times, especially for someone who has compassion for others. But writing this book was a wonderful thing as it shed light on a timely issue that many people never see nor understand because they have never had to experience extremely hard times. When people are forced into a financial hardship, like being homeless or being still a child yourself and having to raise your younger siblings for whatever the reason, they often survive only by making the best of their situation, no mater how bleak it is and doing what they have to do to survive. This should be a great read.
Thanks for your feedback! And yes, this book is a good read. I wrote this book for the purpose of opening peoples eyes to the things others face even as an adolescent. So many people overlook situations like these because it’s not happening to them. However our youth is all of our responsibility and we can make a difference if we just pay attention instead of turning our heads. NO ONE is immune to the streets. It can happen to anybody. So again I’m very thankful to you for interest not only in my book but in this subject.
Keep at it and make your dreams come true.
Thanks Rahiem! I most definitely will.
