JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Art Noble, author of The Sacred Female
(Trafford Publishing)

(One of the first ten people to comment on Art Noble’s author interview will win a FREE copy of The Sacred Female from JoeyPinkney.com)

In his radical and sensitive book, The Sacred Female, Art Noble both enlightens and enthralls his readers with a novel that explores the intimate connection between a man and a woman. Noble brilliantly shows how sexual love manifests into a shared magical experience.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write The Sacred Female?

Art Noble: From experience, then research to validate the experience.

JP: From the outside looking in, female ejaculation seems to be more sensational than sensual. What could the uninitiated reader stand to learn about this phenomenon?

AN: First, it increases female sexual pleasure by a reported factor of 10! This increase in pleasure was first noted by Dr. Reginald de Gaff in 1660. Also, I see pleasure as an indicator of the quantity of electrochemical energy generated that may be transmitted to the man to increase his sexual pleasure.

Ejaculation may not be a necessary element of transcendent sex or spiritual bonding. Also, the physical definition of the female prostate varies so all women may not be able to ejaculate.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to The Sacred Female getting out to the public?

AN: The teleseminar on Wed Dec 2, at 4PM, simulcast on www.hotmix106.com, of course a fantastic review by Joey Pinkney, and persistence.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish The Sacred Female?

AN: It was 5 years in gestation: 1 year in writing and 3 months of editing with a great editor. We read the manuscript aloud three times (over the phone) to smooth out all the rough spots. It is an easy read now.

JP: What’s next for Art Noble?

AN: More seminars and workshops on sexuality, and perhaps another novel with more information about anatomy and physiology so men and women may feel more comfortable about their fantastic bodies.

The Sacred Female
by Art Noble
(Trafford Publishing)
4 out of 5 Stars

What does a marine engineer and a high-end women’s boutique owner have in common? A swift bump on the head! Art Noble’s The Sacred Female is an erotic tale of sexual awakening for both the man and the woman. A chance meeting in the mall leads to a lifetime of love, laughter and melodrama.

Both Ricard and Jeanne experienced life, sex, marriage and children on their own accord. When they met, they were both secure in their respective careers and companionless households. After the usual courting ritual, complete with dates and the informational telephone conversations, the sexual aspect naturally creeps into the picture.

What Jeanne and Richard experience during their first coital encounter, neither are fully prepared. Completely trusting Richard and his commands, Jeanne experiences the phenomenon of female ejaculation. This liberation caused them to separately and collectively view their world in a totally new perspective.

Richard immediately experienced a paradigm shift. Having the analytical mind of an engineer and the abstract understanding of a poetry lover, he transformed spiritually in ways he never imagined possible. His curiosity lead to deep introspection, extensive research, wonderfully exhaustive sex and spiritual enlightening. He shared all four fully and faithfully with Jeanne.

Jeanne’s willingness to let herself go completely to Richard opens up an untapped aspect of her womanhood. On that fateful night, Jeanne wanted to stop for fear of urinating in Richard’s bed. Her ejaculation opens a floodgate, not just of sexual juices but also of emotions and new realizations of her role in a relationship with a man and with God.

Prior to Richard, Jeanne was a hard-nose business woman, complete with her own boutique and luxury car. These things, which she worked tremendously hard to achieve, give way to a more fulfilling relationship with Richard. She had experienced what she thought was love with her ex-husband, but her new found relationship with Richard makes her life unstable all over again.

The Sacred Female is more than a story sharing love and great sex. This novel also deals with the ups and downs of being in a relationship, the spiritual connections of love and the hardships of trying to digest it all. Together, Jeanne and Richard mature exponentially each day. They begin to think alike and even pick up the phone when the other person is calling. Such rapid growth is not without its growing pains. The hardships of change and the unknown only bring them closer. Richard slowly allows himself to be identified as the more casual “Rich Andrews”, something which shocks all who know him.

Richard’s occupation provides an interesting side-plot in The Sacred Female. As a marine engineer with ten years of experience at the established Greenbrier Corporation, his career in both stable and fulfilling. This comes to an head when he realizes his signature is being forged on company letterhead for projects he didn’t approve.

This is a very interesting side-story in The Sacred Female. Prior to meeting Jeanne, Richard would have went to war. Instead, Richard navigates a course unseen by doing what feels right instead of letting his logic fuel his emotions. The way Richard sorts out his thoughts and actions in light of his new found connection with his intuition is almost as interesting as how that aspect of The Sacred Female comes to a close.

Even though The Sacred Female is a work of fiction, Noble draws upon extensive research and rich personal experience to keep things interesting. The Sacred Female is not a how-to book on humping a woman into oblivion. This novel is about aspects of a woman’s sexuality that goes beyond the limitations of the scientific and the procedural.

Noble allows his reader to learn by looking over Richard’s shoulder as he ties together Western Science with the knowledge and wisdom of ancient cultures from around the world. In his search for the explanation for the physical, he finds an answer that is spiritually beyond qualifying in human terms. He is constantly pushed closer to God, and Jeanne follows his lead, opening up the “Three Gates” of sexual and spiritual fulfillment.

The Sacred Female is a strong debut from Art Noble. His literary voice is clear and direct, allowing the reader to enjoy the story unfold instead of getting bogged down in learning the meaning of new words. Noble’s penchant to the subtleties of conversation is full of movie references, witty jokes and rich dialogue. Although you will become quickly in tune and comfortable with Richard and Jeanne, you will not become bored.

You will experience the realistic ups and downs of a relationship as they get to know each other spiritually and are forced to grow. What starts out as sexually between Richard and Jeanne progresses to the intellectual. This desire for knowledge about the mechanics of female ejaculation is under-girded by the reality of a spiritual awakening that reconstructs the psyches of two people who were established in their professions and thought they were stable in their personal identities.

5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Keisha Ervin, author of Finding Forever
(Priority Books)

Once teenage sweethearts, Whitney and Koran are vastly different people now. Whitney’s working on her master’s degree and has a new lease on life, while Koran is a drug dealer riding around in expensive cars and living in a big house. Is it possible for Koran to change his lifestyle and for true love to return?

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Finding Forever?

Keisha Ervin: I’ve always wanted to write a tragic love story. I’m a huge soap opera fan, so I think that is where my flair for the dramatic comes from, lol. Also I love the movie A Walk to Remember. That movie also inspired this story.

JP: How is Finding Forever different from the other love stories you have composed over the years?

KE: This one doesn’t end with my typical happily ever after ending. Although my characters come full circle they are forced to kind of do it own their own and without the love and support of their significant other. Also, this story focuses on an illness that is plaguing us as women.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Finding Forever?

KE: My process for writing a story is first coming up with an idea. I then figure out my outline in my head. I rarely ever write anything down. All of my stories scenes and ideas from start to finish are stored in my mind. Due to the fact I was under a deadline it took me almost three months to write Finding Forever. I’m not a quick writer. I like to take my time with my stories. With this one I still felt rushed. Some of my readers felt the same way.

JP: This is your sixth novel, but your first book on Priority Books. Why did your switch from Triple Crown Publications?

KE: I did this book with Priority Books because it is a home based publishing company. I have to help and support my city St. Louis. Also Rose, the owner, is such a sweet and genuine woman. I would work with her anytime. To make things clear, I am not signed to Priority Books or TCP.

JP: What’s next for Keisha Ervin?

KE: I am currently working on my seventh novel and a short story for an anthology. To all of my fans and supporters you can contact me at www.myspace.com/keishaervin or http://www.webjam.com/grayrosez

5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
The New York Times and Essence Best Seller Mary Monroe, author of Deliver Me From Evil
(Dafina)

(click on the pictures to see reviews of this book on Amazon.com)

Once upon a time, Christine Thurman had the perfect marriage. A girl from the wrong side of the tracks, she made good by marrying Jesse Ray Thurman and helping him build a business worth millions. Together, they were the perfect couple–attractive, successful, and deeply in love. Christine was convinced she’d spend the rest of her life by her handsome husband’s side.

But twelve years later, J.R. has become obsessed with building his video store empire and is taking his wife for granted. Feeling trapped and alone in a dead-end marriage, Christine finds herself tempted by her old haunts and the people she thought she left behind long ago. Suddenly, without J.R. even realizing it, their seemingly unshakable bond has started fraying at the seams–and Christine will do anything to break free.

Enter Wade Eddie Fisher, a bad boy with good looks from Christine’s past. Wade left their hometown long ago to follow his Hollywood dreams, but now he’s back, penniless, and as tempting as ever. Even though Wade is far from dependable, he offers Christine something she can’t seem to resist. Soon she’s immersed in a sultry affair, and before she knows it, she’s concocted a scheme so risky that it promises to deliver everything she could possibly want–or shatter the lives of everyone close to her…

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Deliver Me from Evil?

Mary Monroe: My ideas and inspiration come from a variety of sources. I had read a newspaper article about a woman who had faked her own kidnapping and gotten away with it until her accomplice spilled the beans. The characters in this book are all composites of people I know.

JP: What sets Deliver Me from Evil apart from other novels in its genre?

MM: I don’t think of this book as being “set apart” from others in its genre. Its simply a mainstream story that could have been written by any other author.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Deliver Me from Evil getting out to the public?

MM: My publisher did a fantastic job of promoting this book. I was sent on an extensive national book tour, I did numerous TV, radio, and telephone interviews, and I made a lot of public appearances in bookstores and libraries throughout the country.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Deliver Me from Evil?

MM: I don’t have a set routine. But I write off and on throughout the day, almost every single day. It took about six months to write this book. I went through about four drafts before the manuscript was ready to go to my editor.

JP: What’s next for Mary Monroe?

MM: I have two new books coming out next year! In March 2009 The Company We Keep will be released. It is based on an original screenplay by Roy Campanella II and will be released in trade paperback. (The release date of the movie is still pending.) In September 2009 God Ain’t Blind will be released in hardcover, and it will be the fourth book in my on-going God Don’t Like Ugly series.

(click on the pictures to see reviews of this book on amazon)

Blind Temptations: The Seduction of Sex, Lies and Betrayal is a juicy saga about three friends: Chante Micheals, Michelle Ramsey and Karissa Waters. The characters in this book are hell bent on vengeance, treachery, power trips, seduction and sexual deception!

Chante Michaels lives in a fantasy world. She has the perfect job and the perfect family. That is until her husband, Alex Michaels, step out on her with a Tyra Banks look alike, Paris Chere’ Du’Moore who has a little secret of her own that will unleash all kinds of hell.

Karissa Waters would love nothing more than to be accepted by her mother that disowned her when she was only eleven. She meets the heir to a multi-billion dollar oil estate Andre Williamson who wants to give her a lifetime of happiness. Karissa won’t marry him without her mother’s blessings; a woman who makes Mommy Dearest look angelic.

Michelle Ramsey is in love with the devil himself Brandon Thomas. She’s a master at hiding what she doesn’t want people to see like the abuse she endures at Brandon’s unloving hands. Greg Wallace is the man she needs but won’t give a chance because her heart belongs to only one man…Brandon.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Blind Temptations?

Lesley Hal: A series of life altering events led me to write Blind Temptations.

JP: What sets Blind Temptations apart from other novels in its genre?

LH: Its shocking twists, dealing with real life issues like sexual deception, adultery, abuse, and neglect among other things. Unlike many of the other novels, the characters are not super beings defying all odds without feelings being attached. I make it my mission to make every emotion be seen, heard, and felt no matter the situation. Readers want to that in a character. It makes the book more enjoyable. Most importantly, according to readers, it’s a page turner. Everyone that’s read the book is after me week after week about the sequel, which is in the works and a blessing.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Blind Temptations getting out to the public?

LH: Patience, determination, knowledge about publishing, honing my craft, learning from my mistakes not letting them become a setback but a step up and having a true love for writing.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Blind Temptations?

LH: I started Blind Temptations while in college. It took me 10 years to write it since I didn’t get serious about it until 2006.

JP: What’s next for Lesley Hal?

LH: Currently, I’m a NY Times bestseller six times over thanks to Zane! My short story Riding the “Friendly Skies” was featured in Succulent: Chocolate Flava II where it was dubbed on of the creme de la creme. My second novel Pleasure-n-Spice and Nothing Nice is due out early 2009. I’m pushing for a Valentine’s release. Since it’s what started my journey into the world of erotica, it will be released under my pen name Ms. Lediva.

Blind Temptations II is also slated for release late 2009. Then there’s “Double the Pleasure” which will be featured in Bedtime Stories, an anthology with Brian Smith author of S.W.A.P. Game and Final Fling, coming this summer 2009!

www.lesleyhal.com
www.myspace.com/mslediva

JP: Add any other links, awards and contact information directly involved with the author and/or the book. I would like to highlight your achievements and let people connect with you.

LH: I’ve done a lot of promotional work such as a campaign with Starbucks, the Come Out & Play sampler for 2007 with other noted authors and the Come Out & Play event that took place in the Bahamas in October 2008 which was a huge success.

I was featured in Noire’s online magazine with short story “Stormy Weather” which is the prologue to Pleasure-n-Spice and garnered me a lot of attention from the erotica genre. Blind Temptations & Pleasure-n-Spice are both currently being considered by Kensington Publishing.

Last but certainly not least, I’m one of the founding members of the Authoress Suite with authors N’Tyse: My Secrets Your Lies and Stacey L. Ford: Selling the Fantasy.

Thank you Joey for such a wonderful interview, and I look forward to reviewing Pleasure-n-Spice with you soon!

(click on the pictures to see reviews of this book on Amazon.com)

Dinah Daniels, CEO of Daniels Animal Treatment Center, wife of nineteen years to Kevin Daniels, Attorney at Law, and loving mother. They were an eminent African American family, living the American dream. Life couldn’t be better for Dinah. Until she discovers that everything she’s ever known is a lie.

A life full of scandal and deceit would surface and destroy her perfect family. She didn’t understand how you go from being on top of the world to being stretched out under it. She was used to a world blinded by financial and social status. She had to face the fact that she could not buy her way out of this one.

Driven by Big Mama’s sayings, and her best friend Gloria at her side, Dinah would prove that she is truly a fighter.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Mama Never Said?

Jennifer Knox: I actually had a dream with a certain part of the book in it. It all happened from there. I had no intentions of writing a book. When I woke up I had this overwhelming urge to write about it, so I did.

JP: What sets Mama Never Said apart from other novels in its genre?

JK: Truth. I write about what’s real. I mean, It’s fiction, but it’s real life issues that many face everyday. On the outside looking in it may seem that some “have it going on”, but you just never know what people are facing. My writing offers that inside glimpse.

JP: As an author and self-publisher, what are the keys to your success that lead to Mama Never Said getting out to the public?

JK: Doing my research, knowing everything first hand for myself. The learning process never stops. I know things now that I didn’t know when Mama Never Said was released. Never giving up, and knowing that I am the key to making whatever I want to happen, happen.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Mama Never Said?

JK: Me personally, my thoughts just flow. I hardly ever have writers block. It took me about 2 1/2 years to write Mama Never Said only because I had no idea what I was doing! (laugh) It was a kind of a touch and go type process.

JP: What’s next for Mama Never Said?

JK: The sequel to Mama Never Said will be released in April 2009. I am looking to do a stage play based on a combination of the two in mid to late 2010.

Jahzara, author of Love Don’t Live Here Anymore
(Tranquil Moments Publishing)

(click on the above pictures to see reviews of this book)

Nyree Shaw-Chandler had painted Malachi Chandler as a prince on the canvas of her mind. In reality he was nothing more than a broke-down, wanna-be, thug.

Nyree’s life had been a page out of a fairytale. She married “Mr. Charming”, and they were on their way to happily ever after. As with most roads, a warning sign always precedes the dangerous intersection. Nyree finds herself questioning Malachi more and more as his stories just don’t seem to add up. Malachi is always able to smooth things over. His desire to smooth things over fades. The late nights away from home can not be accounted for, and money constantly turns up missing. Nyree’s world finally comes crashing down around her.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Love Don’t Live Here Anymore?

Jahzara: The character Nyree in Love Don’t Live Here Anymore is based on my real life drama. I wrote Love Don’t Live Here Anymore to inspire and empower women and to promote healing for me as well. I took a creative writing class at the graduate level and submitted the first chapter of Love Don’t Live Here Anymore. My professor suggested that I continue with the story and turn it into a novel.

JP: What sets Love Don’t Live Here Anymore apart from other novels in its genre?

Jah: Love Don’t Live Here Anymore is a novel of energy and raw emotion. It’s based loosely based on a true story. Love Don’t Live Here Anymore is crafted in a manner that readers will pick their brains trying to figure out where reality ends and fiction begins.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Love Don’t Live Here Anymore getting out to the public?

Jah: I believe that this story had to be told to help me heal and to help others know that no matter how difficult the situation, they too can make it. That is my motivation for getting it out to the public. Everyday, I think about who would benefit from reading Love Don’t Live Here Anymore, and then I approach those people. In addition, my publicist Fran Briggs creates exceptional press releases and media releases. She encourages me to not only think big but to do big things.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Luv Don’t Live Here Anymore?

Jah: The writing process for me varies. Sometimes I like to write in a blank book and then transfer it to the computer. Other times, I like to do what I call freestyle writing. This is where I just write from off the top of my head.

It took me between 3-4 years to complete Love Don’t Live Here Anymore. I took a couple of lengthy breaks during the process to make time for children.

JP: What’s next for Jahzara?

Jah: I am working to promote other authors and give them an opportunity to have their works published with my publishing company Tranquil Moments LLC. I want to work with authors who are hungry and want to turn their stories into books.

I’m working on the sequel to Love Don’t Live Here Anymore which is called Luv U 4 Life. I am working to turn Love Don’t Live Here Anymore into a screenplay. Also, I have dating manual that will be released soon entitled Da Test: Is He Date-able?

Readers can pick up my first novel Contradictions written under the name Nicole Bradley as well as check out my story “Friends With Benefits” in Shannon Holmes’ Anthology Hood2Hood.

(click on the pictures to see this book on Amazon.com)

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write A Dead Rose?

Rhonda Lawson: I’m sure we’ve all met or encountered someone who had a less-than-virtuous reputation. As a young adult, I heard so many stories about women, including myself, that may or not have been true. Someone always had something negative to say about a woman. Few people ever bothered to get to know the woman and find out what was really going on in her mind.

It’s not easy for a woman to find love today. A million mistakes can be made before she can find the man she’s truly meant to be with. Unfortunately, those mistakes can cause a woman not to recognize that man when he finally comes along. When A Dead Rose was first released, I received so much feedback from women who said they saw a piece of themselves in Isis.

JP: What sets A Dead Rose apart from other novels in its genre?

RL: A Dead Rose is not just another love story. While Isis is looking for love, the reader also feels her pain as she struggles to find love for herself. I think people who read this book will walk away from it with a sense of inspiration. Of course, there will be people who will have a million negative things to say about Isis. Those who dig deep will see and feel the frustration she deals with.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to A Dead Rose getting out to the public?

RL: When I released my first book, Cheatin’ in the Next Room, I ran into a lot of roadblocks. It was difficult to find a publisher or even get my book onto the shelves. I sacrificed a lot of nights and weekends writing and signing at various book events. Sometimes I sold 20-30 books, and other times only selling two. However, I kept trying because writing is something I love, and I knew I told stories that I truly believed in.

I think part of the reason my publisher picked me up was because the company saw that I was willing to get out there and hustle. To answer your question, I think I owe my success to writing from my heart, never knowing when to say when, and just getting to know my readers and finding out what they want to read.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish A Dead Rose?

RL: I wouldn’t use A Dead Rose as a great example, because it actually took me two and a half years to write between being a single parent, my fulltime job as an Army NCO, going to college, and promoting Cheatin’ in the Next Room! When I began writing my new novel, Putting It Back Together, it only took me about four months. I was under a stricter deadline, so I was forced to focus.

For Putting It Back Together, I first outlined the characters and wrote down my main plot as well as my sub-plots. I didn’t outline the whole story because I wanted my characters to take me where they wanted to go. My characters and plot lists helped me to stay focused.

I also made it a practice of writing in the late evenings. That’s something I’d grown accustomed to in the early days of A Dead Rose since I’m a single parent. I do like to change locations every now and then to keep the creative juices flowing. I’ve even written parts of Putting It Back Together while sitting in the community club here in Korea while a rock concert went on outside!

One last thing I did was find people whom I trusted to read passages for me to give me a sanity check. That helped big time.

JP: What’s next for Rhonda M. Lawson?

RL: I’ve started a blog on myspace and Black Planet that focuses on writing. I want to share my lessons learned with other writers. I’m also working on an online newsletter to not only keep my readers informed of my literary news, but to highlight other poets and authors.

Additionally, my third novel, Putting It Back Together, is due to hit the stands next spring. It takes place in post-Katrina New Orleans, and tells the story of Alexis, a pediatrician with her own private practice, and Reggie, a successful professional football player. The couple dated each other in college, but Alexis’ pride causes them to break up. More than ten years later, Reggie is now married, but trying to divorce his wife, Nikki. However, he learns that the lawyer he hires to handle the procedure is dating Alexis! When Reggie and Alexis come face to face, they wonder how their lives would have been had they stayed together, but learn that when life moves on, love isn’t always the answer.
