Tonja Ayers, author of Cheaters: The Who, What, When, Where & Why of Cheating

Victims of infidelity often become overwhelmed with trying to figure out why their mate has been disloyal. Victims often become obsessed with attempting to find an answer when there could be several answers.

Many others are consumed with how and when their mate could have cheated. The book Cheaters addresses these concerns.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Cheaters: The Who, What, When, Where & Why of Cheating?

Tonja Ayers: I’ve owned a shoe store in Detroit, Michigan, for many years. My books evolve from conversations and discussions I have held with my customers. Infidelity is one of the most popular topics.

JP: What sets Cheaters: The Who, What, When, Where & Why of Cheating apart from other books in the same genre?

TA: My book is set apart from others because I am a realist. You CAN NOT make another person cheat. People cheat because they want to.

I have read other books on the topic where the woman is faulted for not keeping her appearance up or the man is at fault for not paying attention to his wife. I understand that those could be issues that need to be addressed. However, they do not give a person in a committed relationship a free pass to go out and cheat.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Cheaters: The Who, What, When, Where & Why of Cheating getting out to the public?

TA: One, I am approachable. For some reason, people feel comfortable with discussing their personal issues with me. Complete strangers will come into my store and tell me their life stories. With that said, I have been given permission to utilize their stories to help others who may be going through a similar situation.

Two, my businesses have created a platform and are the foundations for everything that I do. My customers support my work.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Cheaters: The Who, What, When, Where & Why of Cheating?

TA: As of yet, my last four books have been handbooks so they are not 300 page novels. They are short and to the point. Therefore, it does not take me long to write, especially when some type of occurrence has motivated me to do so. It usually takes me no longer than a month to complete a book.

JP: What’s next for Tonja Ayers?

TA: I am working on my first novel, and I have been approached regarding doing a play and a short film based on my first book, A Ho Needs 2 Stay in a Ho’s Place.

Today is my birthday.

Because of my sense of humor, I posted this random statement:

“Happy Birthday to Joey Pinkney from the staff of JoeyPinkney.com: Me, Myself and I.”

I was overwhelmed by the response that it got from my associates and friends on Twitter and Facebook. No matter how artificial people make online connections and friends out to be, there are some genuine, heartfelt birthday wishes that floated my way.

My mother called me. It doesn’t get any more genuine than that. And she pointed something out to me. Today is 1-2-12, as one “one two, one two.” I like stuff like that!

I decided to flex my poetry/rap skills with this short ditty:

One two, one two…
It’s JP. In the place to be…
And it goes a little something like this…

Life is a treasure, a pleasure that is measured
in forever getting better and giving up never
Trips around the sun, having fun is number one
It’s not about the end, it’s what you do before your done
To see another January Second is a blessing
Live long and prosper and learn from life’s lessons
I’ve cried tears through the years and laughed more than often

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write A Blessing and a Curse?

Andrea Clinton: Just noticing everyday people and their problems was inspiration to write, “A Blessing and a Curse”. I noticed so many people experiencing some problem or another in their lives.

I wanted to shed light on the fact that everyone goes through issues and life events, whether good or bad. But if we hang in there, things may very well work themselves out. So I’d have to say the inspiration for this book is the issues in life we as people face, whether they are small, horrific, abnormal or awkward.

JP: What sets A Blessing and a Curse apart from other books in the same genre?

ac: The use of the abnormal, the gift of foresight is what separates this novel from others in the genre. I like using all the devices and qualities, etc., from various genres. I don’t want to be put in a box or be so confined that I don’t explore other ideas because they are ingredients for other genres.

I made sure that nothing about the use of the main character’s gift of foresight was scary. Instead, you get to look inside the mind and goings-on of a person who can see the future. Also, although you may not be able to relate to her blessing of seeing into the future, you will be able to relate to the issues that bombard her and her family. Lastly, I made sure to give the readers a few twists and turns in the read, a sort of, “Just when you thought it was all good….”

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to A Blessing and a Curse getting out to the public?

ac: Wow! Diligence, and not letting the obstacles placed before me pull me down. Anything that could happen to me while trying to get this book out, did, including a few deaths in the family, my health (Lupus), and other issues.

But, I had to constantly stay focused, and push hard to get this book out. This book was supposed to go into publication in the spring, but due to unfair and unethical business practices of another company, we had to hold off so as not to allow further usury.

So, in other words, endurance, yes, endurance, perseverance and struggle are all key to the success of this book coming into fruition.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish A Blessing and a Curse?

ac: How I start a book solely depends on how the idea for the story comes to me. If the theme comes to me first, I will analyze the type of main character that would lead the way in what that story is all about, what would make them be so involved, and what would make them do things the way they do them.

If I write by the plot, that is a little more work because then I have to sit and plot out the plot, going through each element of fiction in detail to get me that rising action, climax, and then make it all go down with a BOOM! Or have the reader in awe.

If I get an idea to write about a character or unique character trait and their personality, then I’m thinking how did they get that way? What lead up to them being who they are, and after I pull that together along with their past, their future just falls into place.

A Blessing and a Curse took me about a month to put together. It was initially a short story, but it took on a life of its own. Then, recently, I added some things for the fellas (based on things I learned from my brothers, uncles, other men, etc., that the ladies can benefit from; the inside straight so to speak, lol), just so it would not be a chick book. Because of how the husband, Hooch, misbehaves, I wanted men to read the book to see how this behavior affects women.

JP: What’s next for Andrea Clinton?

ac: My first novel, One Who Loves You More was picked up by a producer during the summer. Now that this book, “A Blessing and a Curse” is finished, I will be putting that book into play format, and we’ll be moving forward with the play.

Around The Way Publishing is planning a Book Release Party/Bazaar & Birthday Bash in May for me and my next two books. Part II of One Who Loves You More is due late summer.

We’re also planning for the biography I’m writing for my uncle, legendary George Clinton of P/Funk, and the Clinton Family story. I’m putting together a tour of Dramatic Monologues. They are monologues I’ve written over the past 15 years.

Also, I’m editor in chief of AMISTAD newspaper and magazine and it will be going live online via an eMagazine and Blog in the new year, with highlights in December. More information is forthcoming and will be placed on the website, Facebook and Twitter.

Armond E. Mosley, author of Rededication: A Story of Sex, Repentance and Restoration

Rededication is an honest account of one man’s struggle with faith and sexuality. Most who’ve grown up in the church have been in positions where what the Bible says and what the world says conflict with one another. This reality has the potential to cause much anxiety and strife for a Christian seeking to live God’s way.

If we’re honest about it, the church typically avoids the issue of fornication aside from admonishing it when evidenced by pregnancy or shacking up. It’s easy to deal with the outcomes or consequences of sexual impurity, but rarely do we deal with the origins in a preventative manner.

Rededication takes an introspective look into my past and delves into the deeper motivations behind my desire to turn away from God and do things my way. Most importantly, it walks the reader through my moment of sincere repentance and ultimately, my road to restoration.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Rededication: A Story of Sex, Repentance and Restoration?

Armond E. Mosley: As I went through my journey of rededication and began to diligently seek out help to aid me in my efforts to become sexually pure, I realized that there wasn’t much content available from a male perspective (especially black). I looked and looked, and what I found most common were books written by women or white males.

Nothing against those authors and one in particular did help me, but I was looking to affirm my journey through the story of someone who looked like me. Unfortunately, I didn’t find much that I could relate to and so. As I began my journey, God made it clear that I was to keep note of my own trials and tribulations as one day I would create the very content that I had longed for.

So, I wrote it 1st out of obedience to God and 2nd to fill a gap that I believed (and still do) existed in the market for books on sexual purity written by black men.

JP: What sets Rededication: A Story of Sex, Repentance and Restoration apart from other books in the same genre?

AEM: When I began my journey of celibacy, I sought out the male (especially black) voice in the marketplace. I noticed very quickly that, though there are a ton of books on celibacy/sexual purity, etc., there are few, if any coming from a male perspective and even fewer that are told from the black male perspective.

Furthermore, those that do exist are often told from an existential viewpoint and seem to shield the author’s own indiscretions along the way. Rededication is transparent, authentic and personal. No punches are pulled and no stone is left unturned. Why? Because it wasn’t my story to keep to myself.

God made it clear to me that I had to tell the WHOLE story, not just the parts that I was comfortable with. I believe what you get with Rededication is a real account of an issue that many face everyday.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Rededication: A Story of Sex, Repentance and Restoration getting out to the public?

AEM: The two biggest keys to my success thus far would have to be persistence and networking. I have come to realize that if I’m not pushing my book, it’s not selling. I’m no NYT best-selling author and as such, its imperative that I share with people I come into contact with, whether in person or virtually, about my book. Not only must I do this, I must be persistent in this effort. It’s the persistence that’s key because anyone can be motivated and tell people about their book when it’s fresh, but the challenge is to continue to do so when the sales may not be rolling in. Persistence is key to pushing past the sales lulls and into the next period of sales growth.

The second thing, networking, is paramount. I been blessed to have some great people around me open doors that I could not have opened myself. Some of these people where friends before publishing, but many have been people I’ve met since publishing my book. For new authors, its important that we get out there and meet new people because you never know who will be in position to help you out. Not only that, you never know who you can assist. It’s a two-way street and I’ve learned that “doing unto others as you would have them do unto you” is a great principle to live by in the publishing arena. In reality, you’re just one connection away from your next book sale and if you don’t network, you’ll never make that sale.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Rededication: A Story of Sex, Repentance and Restoration?

AEM: I am an “inspirational” writer, so I only write when I “feel it.” I tried to take a more disciplined approach before, but it just hasn’t work for me. As a result, during these “inspired” moments I usually crank out 3000-5000 words at a time. Though few and far between, they are pretty intense.

Once I had the idea to write my book, it didn’t take me long to start, but as a result of my writing process it took me ~ three years to complete.

JP: What’s next for Armond E. Mosley?

AEM: I have a few other ideas for books in mind, however, I’m really focuses on doing all that I can do to ensure that my book has the opportunity to get into the hands of those whom God wants to have it. So, I will probably wait until next fall to begin my next book. In the interim, I’m touring different churches to share my testimony and book with their congregations. The reception has been very warm and the discussions have been awesome, so I hope to continue doing these tour stops throughout next year.

The last thing I’d like to share with your readers is this…I’m not perfect. I’m just as flawed as the next man/woman. The book, Forces of Changing Traditions, encircles the spiritual realm of this world and how our lives are being influenced by these spiritual forces that we are unable to see. They use the human elites to fulfill their aims.

The book tries to show that people do not have much freewill anymore because of a few elites who forces their system on every man, woman and child. In doing so, they attack the very fabric of our society, such as religion, race and class.

All three are manipulated with, technology, the RFID chip and the divide and rule culture. For most of the part, the book shows how children and teachers are totally divided by race, religion and class. Children subsequently leave schools with hate and being less educated, making them easier targets for control.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Forces Of Changing Traditions?

Andrew Beckford: The terrible experiences I encountered as a teacher in London, England. Dealing with racism, cultural shock and seeing how damaging it had been to both black and white students gave me all the ideas and reasons to write Forces Of Changing Traditions.

It was like living in hell and writing this book was actually my only escape.

JP: What sets Forces Of Changing Traditions apart from other novels in its genre?

AB: The book is just mad. It is all genres: conspiracy, political, controversial, love, biography, autobiography, just about everything really. Intentionally, it starts off like a biography and continues well into the book as if it were a biography to prepare and distract from what is to come.

Then the conspiracies, controversies and some offensive tales with the realities of life kicking in sums up the differences between this novel and others. Not many books are written with such sincerity and hard hitting realism.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Forces Of Changing Traditions getting out to the public?

AB: Determination. Not allowing anything or anyone to get in your way despite the negative talks you may get. Have a good agenda and purpose. The purpose of this book was to empower people. It was to share my pain that is common amongst so many other human beings and to come up with possible solutions.

It was and will never be about money. Success is in the mind. If I am happy, the measure of another man’s success becomes redundant.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Forces Of Changing Traditions?

AB: This book was actually written as an escape route for myself, so I wrote it for myself; therefore, what you read is basically as it happened. This made it easy writing, it was if I were writing a diary. The other images, themes, settings and moods reflected my true beliefs.

It took approximately five to six months to finish this book. It was written with deep emotions. Once I had put pen to paper, up to forty to fifty pages could be written in a day. This was however done during the holiday breaks from school.

JP: What’s next for Andrew Beckford?

AB: I would like to use Forces Of Changing Traditions as a medium through which seminars and talks can be held with large groups in the USA, England, Africa; everywhere really, in order to fight racism and the injustice human kind is faced with.

This I hope to materialise by July 2011. I am hoping to get a very effective person to organise these events for me. I have just completed my second manuscript, and it is in good hands at the moment. I will also be writing a second part to Forces Of Changing Traditions. Other than that, I will continue to teach those wonderful kids, making them brighter and better human beings, and I am winning.

Jarold Imes, author of “I Used To Love H.E.R.”

About “I Used To Love H.E.R.”: Calvin Rice must find a way to move on after learning that the love of his life has had an affair and is leaving him for another man. Will he stay true to his faith in God or will he succumb to the temptation of the flesh to get revenge.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write “I Used to Love H.E.R.”?

Jarold Imes: I have been wanting to write a book about “The Street Disciples Ministry” and its members ever since I got saved five years ago. I feel like this was an assignment from The Lord, and I have been blessed to see some books and some of the short stories about the members come to light. This story allowed me to focus on a character many of my readers love and oft times, love to hate.

Calvin is one of my most unique characters because he’s made appearances in several of my teen novels, most notably Worth Fighting 4 and Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number. He is also finally getting his own teen book called Nothing Is 4 Nothing.

“I Used to Love H. E. R.” allowed me to explore his life as an adult, especially given the situation he found himself in at the end of Worth Fighting 4. I also wanted to tackle the subject of love and divorce from a male’s point of view.

Most importantly, I cover divorce from a spiritual point of view. I feel like every time a divorce happens, the male’s voice is always silenced or the male is made into some evil monster. Men are never shown to be victims of infidelity, abuse and other domestic issues; even though it happens more times than we want to admit. I wanted to show his frustrations and vulnerability.

JP: What has been your personal experience in being a part of The Soul of a Man Anthology?

JI: I have been blessed to be part of both The Soul of a Man and its predecessor The Triumph of My Soul. I got joy in being able to tithe my talent and my time to write stories that give glory to Him and show real people struggling with real issues and their faith and how He pulls them through.

Being part of these anthologies have also motivated me to write my first Christian fiction novel and given me a platform in which to share my God given talents and to write more spiritual based fiction in not just in my Christian fiction works, but in all the genres I write in.

JP: What is your most memorable moment of The Soul of a Man in terms of what has been expressed of you by someone who has had a chance to read this book?

JI: I’m always asked if Calvin is going to get his own book or if he is going to have other opportunities to tell his story. The short answer to the question is yes, he will. A lot of readers who enjoyed the story liked the fact that I tackled divorce from a man’s point of view and the conflict he had with getting a divorce and his faith.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish “I Used to Love H.E.R.”?

JI: As I’ve grown as an author, I find that I am apt to apply different writing processes to different novels, depending on the genre I’m writing at the time. Outlining and doing story boarding works for some of the novels I write. For others, I have a vision or a sequence of dreams, and I write down what I see and hear. I’ve written down outlines I haven’t touched in years, and I have taken chapters, thoughts, opinions I’ve written years ago and found ways to improve and incorporate them in other bodies of work.

Short stories that are 2,000 to 15,000 words are usually written off the top of my head and completed in a few days to a week. With “I Used to Love H.E.R.”, this story was written in two parts. The first four chapters were written in three days and submitted first, and the second four chapters were written in a week about a month or so after wards. So my story was actually two submissions (thank you, Elissa).

JP: What is next for Jarold Imes?

JI: I’m looking to take my literary career in a different direction. I’ve spent most of the last four years publishing and promoting young adult books and Christian fiction. I still want to do that, but I have interests outside of these genres that I have begun actively exploring as well.

Right now, I’m working on two books that will most likely be the very last Jarold Imes teen novels, The Thing About Love and Nothing 4 Thing. Most of my Jarold Imes teen novels deal with social issues and are primarily geared to young men.

I am currently working on a set of teen books under a pseudonym that will be geared to both male and female readers. At this moment, I am not one hundred percent sure what the new name will be that I will write under. My street themed Christian fiction titles are being republished under the pseudonym Isaiah David Paul.

As I am finishing Street Disciples, which will contain my story “I Used to Love H.E.R”. I am also redoing parts of He Changed The Game, so I can release a new version with new and expanded chapters. I hope to start seeing my Christian fiction work back on the market late 2011 or early 2012.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write And Even If I Did?

Kisha Green: The story came from past relationships of my own and my friends. I wanted to talk about relationships in general but also how they can be unhealthy too. This was a story that was floating around in my head for a long time, and I couldn’t get these characters out so I decided to pen a novel.

JP: What sets And Even If I Did apart from other novels in its genre?

KG: I truly believe that And Even If I Did is unique because the the storyline is so real. People will feel like they either can relate or know someone like one of the characters in my novel. I touch on taboo topics such as HIV, infidelity and domestic abuse while still providing a semi-happy ending.

JP: What have you learned from you previous experience in the book industry that will make And Even If I Did a different experience?

KG: Well, originally when I released this book I was using a print on demand. Now with this being a re-release, I have taken some time to learn the industry and the business side of literary. With my new knowledge, I felt more confident about my book and the decisions that were made in the release of it.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish And Even If I Did?

KG: My writing process is rather simple if I have an idea for a storyline. I am constantly making little notes to myself. When my family is sleeping is when I can truly get into writing mode. As for the process to complete And Even If I Did, it took about a year because I started it and was half way complete then my mother passed away. (RIP Mommy)

I stopped writing to simply take time to mourn and get my head right. Upon doing so, I felt better and knew that not only did I have to complete this novel. Not just for me, but for my mother. I can confidently say she is proud!

JP: What’s next for Kisha Green?

KG: To continue writing, publishing, reviewing books, blog talk hosting and living my life to the fullest! Failure is NOT an option for me, so I will continue to do it all and then some!

5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Christopher Newman, author of Uprising

Imagine a world where the undead have been conquered and are now just another resource to be utilized. You go into your local DMV to renew your drivers’ license. The clerk asks, “What do you want marked for your Undead Clause?” A No answer means upon your reanimation a specialized government team will capture and terminate you. A Yes response directs them to transport you instead go to a factory where you are prepared for entrance into the Reanimated Working Class (RWC).

Due to the Outbreak of 2015, the United States population has sunk dangerously low and the illegal immigrants are gone. There just aren’t enough people to do all the jobs that are necessary. The average American hardly notices them–the red masked members of a new lower caste who walk rich people’s dogs, collect errant grocery carts, pick up litter and shove snow or rake leaves. They go about their mundane tasks faceless and with clamped jaws, apparently harmless to the general public. RWCs are just another humdrum fact of the aftermath of Supernatural Act of 2018.

But an RWC’s existence isn’t what most people think it is. How long can something so hungry – and angry– be kept in check? With protest groups moving through the halls of Congress, these creatures have become a political hot topic. How far will these lobbyists go to see justice done and the dead interned into American soil? What would happen if they are finally freed to prove a point? They can only do what zombies do best…feed on human flesh.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Uprising?

Christopher C. Newman: Watching the movie “Shaun of the Dead”, I noticed at the end the zombies were being used as labor. It wasn’t realistic enough for me to swallow since they still posed a danger to the community at large. Knowing the rise of protest groups, it seemed illogical that political lobbyists wouldn’t get involved to begin to call out for these creatures rights.

JP: What sets Uprising apart from other novels in its genre?

CN: This is not your typical novel in the sense that the drive of it is more about politics, social commentary and the fact that since everyone generally knows how to kill a member of the undead, they wouldn’t take over the world.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Uprising getting out to the public?

CN: I wrote this as intelligent and well researched as humanly possible. Most books about zombies seem to simply concentrate on the gore and horror of their attacks. I wanted to show the fractured Freudian mind within these creatures. Thus, I have a lot of scenes with the zombies “telling” the reader how they feel and what’s going on in their minds.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Uprising?

CN: I lay out the basic plot, major and minor characters and their relationships to one another. Research on the subject of zombies came next along with regional statistics and a lot of math.

I started Uprising and finished in about two months. I have been accused by several editors for being a “maniac behind a keyboard” since I can pump out massive amounts of quality work.

JP: What’s next for Christopher C. Newman?

CN: I’m about 40k in word count into the prelude to Uprising titled Of Blood and Politics which is about the vampire side of the Outbreak of 2015. However, these creatures are tightly patterned after the Desmondus Rotundus or common vampire bat. Also they are living, breathing creatures not simply undead monsters.

This book is geared to debate the pros and cons of the supposed “elitist” ideal of vampires as the top of the food chain. I intend to dispel many common and overly published myths about vampires in general.

Peace in the Storm Publishing is gearing up to release an anthology entitled The Soul of a Man. I am a contributor with a short story entitled “Like Father, Like Son”. (Released Father’s Day 2009)
