JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Karyn Grice, author of No Strings Attached
(Simon & Schuster/Karen Hunter)
Jasmine Taylor doesn’t have the time or the inclination to settle down, not since her longtime boyfriend Nicco betrayed her and married another woman. She’s a successful entrepreneur who knows how to take care of herself, and she relies on several sizzling lovers to satisfy her most arousing needs.
The arrangement seems perfect, except for one irresistible detail: Sean Williams, the only man Jasmine can’t take her mind off. A handsome music producer, Sean has a private jet, fancy condos and a different girl in every city. So why does he keep coming back to smart, beautiful Jasmine?
When she confesses her love one passionate night—a surprise to them both—he realizes he’s met his match. Neither is prepared to give up the no-strings-attached lifestyle, but when Sean finds out Nicco wants Jasmine back, he loses his cool—and lets her go in the process.
The only way Sean can win Jasmine’s heart is by dropping the playboy act and making a commitment. But will she be ready to trust him?
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write No Strings Attached?
Karyn Grice: I wrote another book previous to No Strings Attached, and I wondered if I could do it again. Once I began writing, I discovered how much I enjoyed creating and developing characters. It’s fun making the story whatever you want it to be.
JP: What sets No Strings Attached apart from other books in the same genre?
KG: I try to create realistic scenarios that people can relate to. I try to stick as close to reality as possible. People who read my books find that they can relate to my characters because they have people with similar personalities in their lives.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to No Strings Attached getting out to the public?
KG: Once my first novel was written, I joined writing groups and read many articles about writing and publishing. The Writers Market is full of information on how to find a publisher or an agent, how to write query letters, synopses, etc.
I had to figure out marketing, which is the hardest part of the publishing process. It can be a lot of work. If you are determined to succeed, you keep it moving.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish No Strings Attached?
KG: I like to listen to music while I write. I put on my headphones and find or create a playlist that reflect what I’m writing about. I wrote No Strings Attached in about two weeks.
JP: What’s next for Karyn Grice?
KG: I’m working on my next submission.
