5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Gene “G.B.” Johnson, author of Against the Grain
(Amiaya Entertainment)
Against the Grain takes place in the ’70s. Moe and Boo’s father dies of a heroin overdose and leave the two boys to be raised by their mother. The brothers become the leader of the most fierce gang.
They grow up with such a disdain for heroin that they rob anyone that sells it and destroys the product. The twist comes in when a member of the gang has to choose between his loyalty to Moe and Boo and his family.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Against the Grain?
G.B. Johnson: This book was inspired from my father and stories that he told me of him and his friends in the ’70s.
JP: What sets Against the Grain apart from other books in the same genre?
GBJ.: My book is different from other stories because of the twists that are involved. I write leaving the reader in wonderment of what is going to happen next. When they think they know what direction I’m going in, I make a change of course.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Against the Grain getting out to the public?
G.J.: The book is well written. That’s the key to success. The story is told well, and word-of-mouth should increase my exposure.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Against the Grain?
GBJ.: This is my first title, so it took me much longer to write. I wrote this book by hand first. It took me a while to organize my thoughts.
It took me about 10 months to write Against the Grain. Nowadays, I use the computer for the rough draft. This expedites the completion of a title. I can write a 250 page book in 2-4 months.
JP: What’s next for G.B. Johnson?
GBJ.: My next endeavor is a title called The Search for Ms. Wright. This title is ready for sale in ebook form on Amazon. After that, I have 11 more titles that are written and waiting to be published.

I think this will be a good read, and I just can see the passion this author has for writing especially when you look at him doing all his writing by hand and just shows he has passion for being a writer.
