Envy Red, author of Touch

Touch is an erotic murder mystery set in Washington, DC. It about a trio of girlfriends who are classy professional women by day but involved in an erotic lifestyle by night. There are serial killings going on in the city, and it is unknown whether or not the perpetrator is targeting members of the underground lifestyle. It is filled with social issues, love and various other heavy-hitting topics
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Touch?
Envy Red: I have always been told, from as far back as I could remember, that I had a way with words. However, my real inspiration to make it happen did not occur until after I watched my mother suffer a stroke. She was determined to pen her own novel and encouraged me to live my dream and not wait for tragedy to occur first.
JP: What sets Touch apart from other books in the same genre?
E.R.: Touch visits a range of topics that place it outside of your typical erotic tale. Although it has an erotic element, it is backed by a plot that is rich in depth. From childhood trauma, to mental illness, friendship, sacrifice, and love, Touch explores it all.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Touch getting out to the public?
E.R.: Research, persistence, connections, staying true to self, and hit-the-pavement hard work!
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Touch?
E.R.: I don’t have a fabulous sure-grip process. I am blessed to have a creative mind that allows the words to flow. I create brief outlines that help me focus on the main idea of the story. I write detailed character descriptions, and the rest just flows.
JP: What’s next for Envy Red?
E.R.: I just released the mental madness I call Jaded on Kindle, and it will be out in paperback and various other ereaders in about a week. I am very excited about this project because it touches on the very deep subjects of mental illness and childhood trauma.
I am also back in the lab on a new book I am tentatively calling HighRollers which features the skate community and is due out in the spring of 2012. Furthermore, I am taking the time to breathe life into my prison and youth outreach program, Free Minds Project. I will start teaching a course at the Arlington County, VA, jail early 2012.
