Zari Banks, author of O Lord, Hear My Cry
(Smarty Pants Publishing)

When you’re in a season of despair and feel as if one more shovel of dirt will bury you forever, read through the Psalms and pray the prayers in O Lord, Hear My Cry to declare God’s promises and speak your way to restoration and victory.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write O Lord, Hear My Cry?

Zari Banks: I think back to late March of this year, sitting in my car crying and asking God to either kill me or rescue me. His simple reply was, “Read the Psalms.”

I began reading the Psalms with new focus and concentration each day, and writing down my prayers in my journal like I always have.

JP: What sets O Lord, Hear My Cry apart from other books in the same genre?

ZB: My book is different from other prayer devotionals because these are raw prayers praised during the most difficult days of my life. Prayers prayed when I wasn’t sure I believed God in my mind, but I knew I believed Him in my heart. There are a lot of people struggling out there right now, and this book will give them hope and help them overcome.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to O Lord, Hear My Cry getting out to the public?

ZB: Success is about connecting with others, being vulnerable and healing through sharing. My book has opened up my world to whole new group of people – the hurting.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish O Lord, Hear My Cry?

ZB: The writing portion of my book took about 30 days, but the complete process took five months.

JP: What’s next for Zari Banks?

ZB: I’ve just recently finished and began marketing my third prayer devotional, O Lord, Forgive Them: 30 Days of Praying for Your Enemies, and I’m offering a free ebook preview of it, and taking pre-orders now.
