Tali’s commitment to God has wavered for a long time, much to the dismay of her parents. When her surfer boyfriend Cole starts searching for salvation, Tali is drawn back to her Saviour to serve Him.

Just as Tali and Cole’s lives become increasingly perfect, a series of events happen within a short space of time. Out of these enormous trials facing Tali, a friendship grows unexpectedly with surprising results. Tali has to get strength from her family, her friends and colleagues, but mostly she has to rely on God.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Changes From a Sunset?

Aileen Friedman: It has been a storyline I have had mulling about in my head for many years. The final outcome is different but in a better way.

JP: What sets Changes From a Sunset apart from other books in the same genre?

AF: I have used local logistics. In South Africa, there are not many fiction books using our local spots. I have a passion for surfing and use it to an extent in the story. Also, you have to love the elevator idea in the book.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Changes From a Sunset getting out to the public?

AF: A constant awareness. It doesn’t help to mention it to the public just once. It needs to be mentioned again and again. We too easily just brush over a thought.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Changes From a Sunset?

AF: I have no qualifications, so I am not sure what or how the correct procedure is. I had a lot of time on my hands when all my children left home and decided it was time to put my story from my head to paper.

I just sat down with my laptop and wrote as it came to me. It took me 2 years and after eleven versions, this is the final result.

JP: What’s next for Aileen Friedman?

AF: My eldest daughter and her family are possibly moving to North Dakota in the next few weeks, so until then I will spend every second I can with them. Then I am going to start with the next book.

Ideas and storylines are filling my head to the brim at the moment. My husband keeps asking “when’s the next one”. I think I have surprised him as I have never given anyone the slightest notion that I could write anything – even myself for that matter.

This is my debut book, and I realise I probably have many critics out there. However, I know the story is good, and all I want is that it will uplift and encourage anyone that reads it. It is a very enjoyable story.
