JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Melvin Robertson, author of Suburban Secrets
(Intelligent Publishing)
This novel shines a spotlight on misdeeds and habits of people you never would expect to practice such behaviors. No one on this planet is immune to sex and drug addictions or having a fetish for crime, no matter the choice thereof.
Whether you’re a taxi driver, college professor or a doctor, you are capable of living a lifestyle that’s extremely shocking. This story exposes a suburban community that will make you think twice about those you so freely put your trust in.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Suburban Secrets?
Melvin Robertson: I just want people to know if we have to make a conclusion about someone, then do so based on personal interaction – not because society teaches us to stereotype and be judgmental.
JP: What sets Suburban Secrets apart from other books in the same genre?
MR: Because I don’t just tell a fictional story. I give realistic reasons why my characters are the way they are. Therefore, the message I’m trying to convey is duly noted. My writings are all about the message.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Suburban Secrets getting out to the public?
MR: What I find most effective is being open-minded and persevering.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Suburban Secrets?
MR: I like to play my novels over and over in my head like a movie then I write about what I see just how I see it. It took me about a month to start and finish Suburban Secrets.
JP: What’s next for Melvin Robertson?
MR: In a couple of years, I intend to start my own publishing company. Not to just publish my own works, but to give aspiring authors a fair opportunity in a business where so many are taken advantage of. So, be on the lookout for N-Motion Publishing.
