Ed Marin, author of The 2012 Project

The 2012 Project is the story of Tonemcadu, an official in the court of the pharaoh Akhenaton mummified 3,500 years ago by a unique process that will awaken him during the pivotal year of 2012 for a mission to the Great Pyramid that can save millions of lives.
After learning to communicate with the two Chicago Museum archeologists who see him awaken and secretly care for him in their home, he leaves on his own and embarks on a journey to Egypt that will require all of his extraordinary skill, ancient wisdom, and physical strength to justify the trust the pharaoh placed in him. During his journey, Tonemcadu teaches as much as he learns and discovers that the one constant that has not changed throughout the centuries is love.
The reader will enjoy the startling plot twists in this novel that weaves together little known facts about Ancient Egypt with a look at today’s society from the perspective of an exceptionally wise man from a very different world.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write The 2012 Project?
Ed Marin: It came in part from some of the existential questions that I’ve asked myself for as long as I can remember. Those questions led me to search for truths by reading everything I could about subjects as diverse as philosophy, history and science. All of that led me to my own thoughts which I started to write down and which eventually filled up several notebooks.
Then, one day, I decided that I should put them in a book which I wanted to be both very entertaining and informative.
So, I created a character from a completely different time and place who would be able to look at the modern world in an entertaining way with a completely fresh pair of eyes. This worked out especially well because I had learned from my interest in ancient Egypt that there is strong evidence that they, as many other cultures, predicted that the period around 2012 would be of great significance for humanity. Furthermore, many of their beliefs had a timeless wisdom that resonated with me.
JP: What sets The 2012 Project apart from other books in the same genre?
EM: To my knowledge, this is the only optimistic, fast-paced 2012 novel that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Unlike other books about 2012 that focus on the Maya and on disaster, this novel looks at the period from an entirely different perspective by weaving together little known facts about Ancient Egypt with a look at today’s society from the perspective of an exceptionally wise man who has an important positive message for the world.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to The 2012 Project getting out to the public?
EM: I think that the keys to success are the same in all areas of life. First, the author has to do what he or she feels passionate about, which in this case is writing. Then he or she must work diligently, which is a lot easier and doesn’t even feel like work if they really love doing it.
Then the author must aggressively market his book. I hired Live Write Publish! which is a very dynamic book company that is helping me promote the novel. It helps to work with people who know the business so that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish The 2012 Project?
EM: I like to write early in the morning. I find that’s when my imagination is the most active, and it’s easier for me to form sentences that I’m happy with. Then, I write until the inspiration is no longer there or I have to go. I found out through experience that if I’m not in a state of flow, I’m not satisfied with my work, no matter how hard I try.
JP: What’s next for Ed Marin?
EM: I will continue to promote this book and write more novels.

While The 2012 Project is a fantasy novel, it also has very realistic elements with startling plot twists. The feedback has been great so far. People seem to like the fact that they learn a lot of little known facts about a lot of different subjects in a very entertaining way.
