JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Shaheta S. Pickett, author of Rush -“What’s Life Without One?”
(La Femme Fatale)
Rush – What s Life Without One? Road bumps will definitely slow you down, but nothing is guaranteed. Life has no warranty neither does Passion’s heart. A detour in her plans, promises that are not kept, and a hand-knitted street game that was unexpected Passion leads her down a road to self-destruction.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Rush -“What’s Life Without One?”?
Shaheta S. Pickett: Initially, I named the book Adrenaline Rush, but seeing the story from a different set of eyes gave me the inspiration to leave it at Rush because it could give off any type of rush.
The inspiration comes from the heart. When you are in love, your heart races with every second of the day. It’s also inspired by the words that two individuals want to say to each other but don’t have the guts to mention. Therefore, between the covers of my books, I took a risk and painted the picture of unspoken feelings emotions and longing for something don’t doesn’t physically exist: love.
JP: What sets Rush -“What’s Life Without One?” apart from other books in the same genre?
SSP: Imagination and scenery tends to set me apart from the other authors and writers in the same genre. I also write with a poetic stroke such as a lyric to keep the beat to their heart going.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Rush -“What’s Life Without One?” getting out to the public?
SSP: My keys to success is constant communication. People that know me on a personal basis would beg to differ because I’m naturally shy. Sharpening my craft, writing every single day even if its me writing my name over and over in the universe it appears that I’m constantly writing. I also try to find different vehicles to have my books and work mentioned other than social networks. The more the readers see my name they will become curious of who I am and what I have to offer.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Rush -“What’s Life Without One?”?
SSP: My writing process consist of music and pictures. I have to have something to drink such as Cherry Pepsi or some cappuccino. It took me about 5 months consistently to finish Rush and my other novels a couple of months as well. That is without distractions and technology. (LOL)
JP: What’s next for Shaheta S. Pickett?
SSP: Beauty Shop Confessions 1 and 2, Rush 2 – “Playing with Fire“, and Lucky 7 – “Life’s a Gamble”.
