5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Dara Nichole, author of The Urban Girls Guide to Etiquette
(Beautiful Works Publishing )
My book is a twist on the old-fashioned etiquette books. In this book, I tap into the knowledge of experts in the areas of fashion, make-up, hair, and finances and bring the latest info to girls. I’m targeting the ages of 12-19, but anyone can read it!
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write The Urban Girls Guide to Etiquette?
Dara Nichole: I work around high school girls all the time. I see so much stuff that I’m sure they aren’t aware they are doing that is wrong. It’s even the small things like saying hello when someone speaks to you to dressing appropriately for interviews.
I felt so strongly about it, I gathered my resources, asked a lot of questions and compiled a lot of good information into this one book. (I like to call them life skills.)
JP: What sets The Urban Girls Guide to Etiquette apart from other books in the same genre?
DN: Honestly, I have not seen a book like this in my genre. That’s why I believe this is so important.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to The Urban Girls Guide to Etiquette getting out to the public?
DN: Promote, promote, promote!
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish The Urban Girls Guide to Etiquette?
DN: It took a year, and I am still thinking about doing a second part to the book. I don’t really have a process. When I’m inspired, I write.
JP: What’s next for Dara Nichole?
DN: I plan on doing a series for teen girls. That is in the works as we speak.

I can’t wait for girls to read this book! I believe it’s so important for young girls to understand the importance of etiquette and “Treating others as they should be treated.” They will love it. I wish I would have had a book like this when I was young.
