Abuse is no Accident, It’s Definitely on Purpose is about being trapped in abusive relationships and not knowing how to get out. It shows the reader some of the tactics abusers use to gain and keep control over their spouses or mates. The book also gives its reader a look into the mind of a battered woman; what she is thinking, and what she is feeling.
I wrote this book to help anyone who may be going through abuse, or anyone who has survived abuse. It is geared toward Domestic Violence, Victims, Police Officers, Judges, Batterers, and anyone who does not understand why victims stay. Many individuals have had to deal with some form of abuse in their lifetime, and my book is about dealing with all internal pain, lifting spirits, creating awareness and healing hearts.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Abuse is no Accident, it’s Definitely on Purpose?
Merna Harrington: My inspiration came from being a Domestic Violence survivor. I began journaling episodes when I could. Years later, I knew that one day I would turn the notes into a book. MH: What sets Abuse is no Accident, It’s Definitely on Purpose apart from other books in the same genre is that the book is not just about abuse; it is also about healing and seeing the beauty in oneself because we are all beautiful. It doesn’t matter what someone may have said or done to make a person feel less than because we are all greater than that. The book being about my journey sets it apart because everyone’s journey is different.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Abuse is no Accident, it’s Definitely on Purpose getting out to the public?
MH: As an author, the only key to my success that lead to Abuse is no Accident, It’s Definitely on Purpose getting out to the public is Almighty God. He has placed the right individuals in my path at the right times, and He continues to guide me.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Abuse is no Accident, it’s Definitely on Purpose?
MH: My writing process would have to be journaling first, and then adding my heart to the notes. I’ve been keeping journal notes since 2005, but it wasn’t until 2011 that I organized the notes and added inspiration.
JP: What’s next for Merna Harrington?
MH: My hope is to speak to individuals who have lost confidence in themselves; anyone who is hurting, and to work with batterers because they are hurting too.
