JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Giacomo Giammatteo, author of Murder Takes Time
(Inferno Publishing Company)
A string of brutal murders has bodies piling up in Brooklyn, and Detective Frankie Donovan knows what is going on. Clues left at the crime scenes point to someone from the old neighborhood, and that isn’t good.
Frankie has taken two oaths in his life—the one he took to uphold the law when he became a cop, and the one he took with his two best friends when they were eight-years-old and inseparable.
Those relationships have forced Frankie to make many tough decisions, but now he faces the toughest one of his life; he has five murders to solve and one of those two friends is responsible. If Frankie lets him go, he breaks the oath he took as a cop and risks losing his job. But if he tries to bring him in, he breaks the oath he kept for twenty-five years—and risks losing his life.
In the neighborhood where Frankie Donovan grew up, you never broke an oath.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Murder Takes Time?
Giacomo Giammatteo: I always told my kids stories about the old neighborhood where I grew up. They kept insisting I write about it, so I weaved the stories into a novel.
JP: What sets Murder Takes Time apart from other books in the same genre?
GG: I think one of the Amazon reviewers describes it far better than I could:
“This novel is not just a murder mystery.
This novel is not just a thriller.
This novel is not just a love story.
This novel is not just a life story.
This novel is all in one.” OBI Amazon reviewer
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Murder Takes Time getting out to the public?
GG: I thought the most difficult part was over when I finished editing it. Little did I know that the hard work was about to begin. Getting the word out so readers know you are even out there is, in my opinion, the toughest task. That’s why sites like yours are so important.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish MURDER TAKES TIME?
GG: It took me about two to three months to produce the first draft. Once again, the work was just starting. It took me another six months or more to finish editing it. As to the process, I write late at night.
JP: What’s next for Giacomo Giammatteo?
GG: I have Murder Has Consequences, the second book in this series coming out later this year. A Bullet For Carlos, the first book in a new series, is coming out in August.

Joey: Thanks for having me on your site. As always, you’re doing a fantastic job for authors and readers alike.
Thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate you working with me. The book review is forthcoming.
This is a very interesting story of the mystery that lies just beneath a seemingly “normal” neighborhood. I hope I connect you with many great readers.
