Twisted Sister is a mind-bending tale of love, cruelty, friendship and revenge. The story opens with Holly and Blythe – two African-American twenty-somethings that are on the way to the top of a prestigious financial management firm. While Blythe is “lucky in love,” Holly is a self-imposed single person that is focused on solidifying her career, not on finding Mr. Right. To make matters worse, a failed engagement that still haunts Holly cripples her every time she tries to make a new relationship work.

That all seems destined to change, though, when Blythe discloses that a new associate named Trent has developed feelings for Holly. Not only is Trent seemingly successful, kind-hearted, and financially secure, but he is also every woman’s dream – athletically built with chiseled and handsome features.

After a sexually charged first date, followed by a whirlwind undercover few weeks of dating, Holly’s romance comes to a screeching halt. Even though she knew that inter-office dating was frowned upon, Holly had been sure that her office romance had gone unnoticed…until one of the partners called her out and gave her an ultimatum: a successful career or Trent.

When Holly makes the decision to break off her relationship with Trent, she could never have dreamed about the nightmare that awaited her as a result of leaving him. Kidnapped, drugged, and raped at knifepoint, Holly has every chance to wilt completely at the hands of her captor. However, after a sudden twist of grace leaves her alive and standing outside of her apartment high rise, the strong will to fight that lives within her soul sparks to life, enabling her to vow that she will not let her tormentor get away with what he has done.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Twisted Sister?

Deidra D.S. Green: The inspiration for Twisted Sister originated from a poem I wrote of the same title a year ago. Poetry is my first love, and I frequently write in that genre. I had some technical difficulties (computer crashed and burned) and was unable to retrieve the poem. I liked the story line so much, I decided to put it into a narrative. Twisted Sister was born.

JP: What sets Twisted Sister apart from other books in the same genre?

DDSG: Twisted Sister, the novella, is unique in that all the characters are young, vibrant, and successful in their own right. Holly, the main character, has a successful career. She loves her life. She is driven to achieve her goals and will let nothing stand in her way – until she meets Trent. He is able to remind Holly, through his charming personality, that she is missing something in her life despite all the success: love.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Twisted Sister getting out to the public?

DDSG: I really enjoy the process of weaving and crafting stories. I am a fan of the written word, and I am learning every day just how powerful words are. Because of my passion for writing, I am driven. I take my writing seriously and as such, I don’t cut corners. I am always tweaking and re-tweaking, from the cover design to the final word on the page. I want the readers to not only enjoy the book but have an emotional experience as a result of reading it.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Twisted Sister?

DDSG: I write every single day! No matter how I feel or what may be going on in other parts of my life, I make it a point to write every day. I tend to have more than one book project going on all at the same time, so I have plenty of choices when it comes to what I write. But the bottom line is, writing takes place every day. Twisted Sister took roughly 3 months to compose from start to the end of this novella. But stay tuned… there’s more to come.

JP: What’s next for Deidra D.S. Green?

DDSG: I have a couple of new projects coming soon! For the first time, I dabbled in flash fiction and “Insatiable” will be released June 2012. Two short stories, “48 Hours” and “16 Doors” will also be released June 2012. I am in the process of finalizing a collaboration project of short stories with amazing author Andrea Ryan called Exiting Gracefully that will be released by the end of this year.

Other projects that I am currently working on include Interstate 64 a psychological thriller; A Letter to My Mother, contemporary fiction, and Woman at the Top of the Stairs, another psychological thriller. Hopefully one or more of those will be released by year’s end as well. Lastly, I am in the beginning stages of a poetic anthology with some very creative artists that will be released early 2013.
