Imagine being born in a prison of his own mind. Hank goes into the world of drugs; heroin, hashish, pills, and whatever he could consume. Drugs came to be his life, the thought of taking them away would be like trying to drown or suffocate yourself – it was better than the air he breathed.

Hank’s addiction ate away at the core of his own soul, destroying everything around him, not understanding his other extreme personality he had embedded deep into his mind, his disease, or anything about why he did and thought like he did. Until one day, rock bottom hit him hard enough to open up his eyes – going back to the very beginning, going back to Divine Innocence.

Hank frees himself from active addiction and turns his life around. But, does he turn it around for the better or worse? Is it possible to free yourself from the chains that continuously bound you heavily onto the ground? Will Hank discover something in him? Or is he just the failure everyone sees him to be?

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “Divine Innocence”?

Hammed Al-Tamimi: I got it from true raw weakness, pain and vulnerability. It’s somewhat ironic how something as beautiful as “inspiration” gives you the power to create, to love, to believe in the eccentricity of your mind and allows you to walk freely on the roads that you have paved.

JP: What sets “Divine Innocence” apart from other books in the same genre?

HT: I don’t want to brag. Honestly, I don’t like to honk my own horn. I believe nothing is set apart from anything in this world. We all complete each other. Every human being I have met whether in my dreams, life, internet or on the street helps complete my life’s thousand-piece puzzle.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “Divine Innocence” getting out to the public?

HT: My faith in God and/or my higher power “however you may understand him”. My success is counted by each individual that has had a hand in it, whether by talking about my book, buying it, writing a review, reading it or even taking the time to take just a little interest in it.

Every person who will ever come in contact with me or my book, whether current or future will be a master key in my success. So people if generous will be the main reason of any success I will ever get.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish “Divine Innocence”?

HT: Starting is easy. When there is an itch in the brain, writing is what scratches that itch. You don’t stop scratching till that itch cools down. In my case, it took me twenty months just to write – excluding the editing, cutting and publishing.

JP: What’s next for Hammed Al-Tamimi?

HT: I’m counting on something great. I pray and hope that I am up for greatness. If not, I will keep on trying.
