5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
LaSheka Hollingsworth, author of What If?
(Outskirts Press)
The book, “What If?” is for each person that has allowed the past to define their future. We all have had that “what if” moment in our lives, but God has a plan for all of us.
The book simply explains that as children of GOD that we must admit when a mistake was made, learn from it, and move forward. God wants his children to live a blessed and meaningful life without regret and be a blessing to others.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “What If?”?
LaSheka Hollingsworth: Honestly, the inspiration to write a Christian based book was due to all of the interesting ordeals in my life that caused me to lean on the word of God for peace. Without all of those trials and tribulations in life, I know that I would have never written “What If?”.
JP: What sets “What If?” apart from other books in the same genre?
L.H.: “What If?” is a book of inspiration for that individual that feels regret of their past. God has a purpose for us all. For some reason in life, people are so embarrassed of discussing the issues of the past that may be about abuse or loss of a love one.
If each and every person started a dialogue about what has caused them pain, the world would be a better place. We all have a story that could help someone feel better about life. It’s time to let go of what happened in the past.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “What If?” getting out to the public?
L.H.: I have a great support system that includes family and friends. You must believe in what your writing, and I believe “What If?” has truly touched many people in a good way.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish What If??
L.H.: I always keep a note book with me at all times for those moments when a great idea pops in head to put in my book. I brainstorm and make outlines of the topics will be in the book.
Fora five year period of time, people would tell me that I should publish a book. I was not ready to make that commitment. After writing the book, I knew that God wanted the book to get into the hands of people that can’t let the past go.
JP: What’s next for LaSheka Hollingsworth?
L.H.: Currently, I am working on a Christian-based novel about three friends that are in three unhealthy relationships. With the help from God, they will either stay with their husbands or move on. God has called me to write about his goodness, and I will continue to write until I am no longer able to lift a pen.
