JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Aileen Friedman, author of When is My Forever
(Aileen Friedman)
Vanda has always had a strained, volatile and unloving relationship with her mother Dena. When Vanda and her best friend Patty meet a new group of friends. they are introduced to love and also to God.
There are brief moments when it seems as though Dena can change and become the mother Vanda has always longed for. These moments are short-lived, leaving Vanda feeling more and more bitter.
Egan, her Irish boyfriend, is the perfect antidote. Their plans for a happy forever are put to the test when he is forced to return to Ireland. To make matters worse, an unwanted pregnancy stops Vanda from joining him. She discovers an anger towards her mother that consumes her.
Will Vanda rely on God to get her through this traumatic time? Will Egan be the forever she has longed for all her life?
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “When is My Forever”?
Aileen Friedman: I cannot say any one moment or a particular happening. “When is My Forever” unfolded as I wrote, much to my own amusement.
Every night when I began to write, I was surprised at myself as the ideas and storyline developed. In the end, I had a wonderful and encouraging story to tell.
JP: What sets “When is My Forever” apart from other books in the same genre?
AF: I’ve used a few of the characters from my first book “Changes From a Sunset” without this book being a sequel as I have set the story in the same Helderberg region.
“When is My Forever” deals with the anger we can build up within us that ultimately can change your personality and who you really are. It is also rather comical and very easy reading.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “When is My Forever” getting out to the public?
AF: I learnt a lot from publishing my first book. The major aspect is a constant awareness. To keep readers updated on reviews and public events, and to always be updating on social media sites.
It is very time consuming, especially since I work full time and do all the PR myself. But at the end of the day, I have control.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish “When is My Forever”?
AF: I simply enjoy writing as if I am telling you the story over coffee. It took me nine months from the first sentence till it was published in Feb 2013.
JP: What’s next for Aileen Friedman?
AF: I have already started my third book which will not have any characters from the first two in it. This book might take a lot longer as the story I want to tell is a bit more complicated. In the end, I can only pray that it will encourage and help the readers as the first two have done.
