5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Kimberly Conner, author of Delilah’s Lap

Delilah’s Lap is a modern reworking of the Bible story of Samson and Delilah. Delilah is an adulterous pastor who is being blackmailed when she meets and falls in love with a handsome, successful, and psychotic Samson There’s murder, witchcraft, adultery, money laundering, embezzlement, fraud, betrayal, and just good old plain treachery. Can Delilah escape Samson with her life intact?

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Delilah’s Lap?

Kimberly Conner: A friend of mine said, “I have a title for you – Delilah’s Lap.” She continued telling me what she thought the book should be about, but my mind had already twisted it and started forming my warped biblical story.

JP: What sets Delilah’s Lap apart from other books in the same genre?

KC: Delilah’s Lap, being loosely based on the Bible story, gives it an edge. There was a story already in place. I set about to warp it and twist it to the point of being almost unrecognizable. It’s not a traditional good-always-triumphs Christian fiction story. The paranormal aspect to it is also a little wonky. It’s not like any book that I’ve encountered, thriller or otherwise.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Delilah’s Lap getting out to the public?

KC: Word-of-mouth has been my biggest help thus far. I was, and still am, excited about Delilah’s Lap, and my excitement has become infectious. Almost everybody that I’ve talked to about the book has shown an interest. Social media has been very helpful, also. And I try to always have a copy of it with me. I’m always listening for opportunities to say, “Hey, I wrote a book. You should read that joint!”

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Delilah’s Lap?

KC: Start-to-finish, about 11 months. That’s including the down time, the blocked time and the procrastination. At first, I just sat down and started writing. That didn’t work out well. I stalled at the second chapter for months. Once I made an outline and focused, it all went pretty smoothly. Gallons of red wine and nonstop smooth jazz in the background and the story kinda wrote itself, LOL.

JP: What’s next for Kimberly Conner?

KC: I’m working on Book Two in my Delilah trilogy, and it’s called Delilah’s Bosom: The Second Book of Delilah. It’s not about Delilah’s breasts, either, LOL. I plan to be done and published by November 2017. Delilah’s Lap was released in November 2016, so I’d like to follow up with that. I’m compiling recipes for a cookbook called #FatChickChronicles, and an adult book styled as a children’s book (illustrations and all) called #RudeBabyChronicles.
