  1. Find out when the next well-known author will be having a book-signing in a major bookstore near you. Put YOUR business card in the middle of each one of THAT person’s new books. The reader is certain to get your business card out of the store and into his/her home, since he/she will be clutching vigorously to his/her new autographed edition by the featured author. 🙂

    1. Wow, I like that! (In more ways than one…)

This is a great way to use someone else’s momentum for your potential benefit without being obtrusive. Plus, that reader just got a free bookmark, LOL!

  2. What I love to do with business cards is leave a stack of them in the ladies’ room of all the restaurants, theaters, and other public restrooms in place that I visit, like at the airport, bus depot, and so forth.

Then, when no one is looking, jet into the men’s room real quick, and leave a few stacks in there as well. Believe me, it works!

    1. See, Barbara. I like this guerrilla tactic. I’ve hear of this, but I’ve wondered if it was effective.

But that’s so funny that you hit up the “other” bathroom, too. LOL.

  3. Creative? Hmmm…I’ll pass it out in a fancy little cute holder that’s also a discount from the sales price of the product or service; or that combines 2 deals in one at a discount to the consumer still.

  4. I’ve been known to pass them out when I’m giving change to people and i’ve done the ladies bathroom thing.

I’ve also left them in seats of buses and cabs.

Whenever I attend any event, i try to get around and pass out my card early to everyone who is a vendor and volunteer as well.

    1. Passing them out while giving change? That’s interesting.

I like the leaving them in the seats of transportation. You never know who will pick them up an follow through to contacting you.

  5. When I dine out, I leave my business card in the credit card slot. If you leave a good tip, people are apt to call you, pass your card along, or at least visit your site. It works!~

    1. That’s a good one, too. Leave it in the card holding thing. Pay a little on the front end and get a book club to buy like 100 books, LOL. That would be hot. I like your idea Pam.

  6. When I saw this give-a-way the bookstore idea was the first to come to mind.

My best friend and I always get a vip table when we go out. Usually we’ll walk and the feature or sponsors have their promos on the table. I throw my business cards and bookmarks in the midst and get a great reaction.

Another good one is the church bulletin. Some of the most avid readers are church goers. Make good with the head usher and she’ll give you a plug. If that fails, hustle your preteens to work the church parking lot before service lets out.

Taking a page from the book of Author Eric Pete, work the local mall or Walmart selecting people at random.

Alright, I’ll keep the rest of the secrets in the arsenal for now…lol

    1. OK, LaFreddie! Thanks for that! Looky here, LaFreddie came with 3 ideas in one comment.

I’m like what I’m seeing. Who else has some creative ideas?

  7. The guy who tosses the newspapers from his car window accidently hit me with a paper one Sunday and was so frightened that he asked me what he could do. I asked him how many papers he delivers especially on Sundays and when he told me, I decided to ask a favor. I gave him an autographed copy of my book and a box of business cards and asked him to put a card in each plastic bag with the papers for the customers and he surely did. Now every week he’s asking me for more cards.

    1. Wow, Pauline. Talk about a hook up. I mean, nobody wants to get hit with a newspaper. But what a way to turn lemons in to lemonade. And how sweet it is!

  8. I have two ideas, and you can use either or both…
    1. while waiting in line at for live performance take one and pass it back, tell the next person and watch everyone do the same.

    2. While in an crowded auditorium, before the show, or movie begins, or during the break, hand a stack to the person in the aisle seat and ask them to take one and pass it to the next person.

  9. Ooooh! I really like the first one. Talk about a captive audience! That’s a great way to spread business cards around. Also, with so many people having smart phones, they can go straight to your website or even email you while standing in line.

  10. I am old fashioned and stil mail out my monthly bills and whatnots, so I slip a business card in with the check. I do this monthly, as I bet there’s someone different opening mail at those companies. I also enclose a card in those ‘unwanted’ junk mail that have return envelopes and mail it back to them, especially the ones that have pre-paid postage.

    1. See? This is capitalism at it’s finest. Getting the word out on the junk mail’s dime. I love it. Now I’m looking around the house for some junk mail… I know there’s some around here somewhere… Here we go!

  11. Plain and simple, I hand out either a business card, bookmark or a brochure so either way its a three way street called the B3 freeway of contacting me for future activities because all my info are on those three lanes of directing traffic to me or my table of products to purchase.

  12. Hi Joey,
I think everyone just about named them all. Book marks, handing out business cards, etc. Also I have partnered with business card portfolio distributors, at trade shows they give them away with other business cars. Request to have yours solicited along with others. Also, another good way is e-cards….At the bottom, upload ur business card as your signature page. Other than that…Get a billboard, and meet someone well known to give out ur business card along with theirs if ur lucky…lol Def a great design, something that is not trendy but different today. Everything looks the same nowadays…..Professional and High Gloss touches….Also, if ur at a book signing, do a fishbowl drawing, offer an incentive, pick a card, to drop a card…..This will always leave a memorable impression on ppl..Gotta spend money to make money…It works….Ok, I’m done…;-)

  13. I would go to the self check out line in a grocery or Wal-Mart and put my card in all the bags. That way the person who comes behind me would get something extra in their bag.

    1. I like this idea. The captive audience will look at the card later and want to see what it’s about. I know I’d be like, “What in the world is this?” and read it…

  14. Well on Fridays when there are big blockbuster movies out, such as Why Did I Get Married 2, Iron Man, etc; people are waiting in long lines to buy their tickets, so while they’re waiting, I would hand them a business card and hopefully strike up conversations too about my books.

    1. See, this is a go-getter. You have to have an outgoing personality to walk up and strike a conversation with a complete stranger.

But what do you write and publish a book for if not to get it bought by as many people as possible?

An angle I can see with this is relating the book to the movie that people are in line for. That way you might be able to get a sale if not a serious look. People that pay those high prices to go to a movie definitely has the money to buy an thoroughly entertaining book.

  15. I work in electronics sales and usually whenever I sell something, I offer my customer an extended warranty. I’ll slip a business card inside the warranty pamphlet and tell them that if they want it, let the cashier know and she’ll ring it up for them, and even if they don’t to take the pamphlet home because you have 30 days to decide. I’ll tell them to look over it thoroughly. I’ve also stapled them to fliers, left them on tables in book stores, tacked them on bulletin boards in grocery stores, etc.

    1. This is guerrilla marketing at its finest. Putting the car where it can be seen is the only way it will be seen. Sounds simple, but you have to be active in getting the cards out there.

  16. “High-gloss Book-markers” It has worked out very will for me to give out book-markers as my business cards. It offers a full illustration of my book cover along with all my contacts. I have left and mailed a large number of them all over the world.

    1. I think authors should include their business cards in each of their books. I would use them as book marks. I tend to put my own in the books I read.

  17. Specifically design the cards so that when you fold them into little origami swans, your name appears on one wing, your number on the other and your business name appears on the neck. Then you can hand them to absolutely ANYONE, ANYWHERE and they are guaranteed to look at it and take an interest because this in no way looks like a business card… but it is. Everyone loves receiving an origami swan. As they play with it (which they WILL do), they will inevitable read your name, number and business name over and over again, thus remembering who you are, how to contact you and what your business is. 🙂 (Howya doin’ Joey?)
