Based on the author’s life experiences, The Miniseries of Me is a poignant collection of short stories that deals with some of life’s most difficult circumstances. Ranging from child molestation and rape to divorce and adultery, the topics covered in this collection are emotion-provoking and sadly common.

Each story has a spiritual tone and encourages readers to take a look at the type of person they are, as well as take in all the wonders life has to offer. The Miniseries of Me brings to life a variety of characters; readers are sure to relate to one or more of them (or know someone who could).

Beneath the collection’s words is the truth of humanity’s ultimate goal of serving God. With each story’s conclusion, the message becomes clear: God is Love, and everything we go through is a test or a step to success in His vision.

The short story centers on a black college freshman, Ruth, one of six black students in an otherwise white university in the 1960’s. Ruth faces the challenge of the romantic advances of a white male student and the racism of white faculty.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Adventures in Blackface: and other shorts?

Sarah Gordon Weathersby: I was inspired by the movie Selma released in 2014, as well as my personal experiences as a college freshman in a time and place when people didn’t talk about race and often excluded black students from mainstream activities.
