When flat-broke subway singer Jason Spirit receives a large tip in his case from a sexy Russian woman, little does he know it leads to a relationship with Thaddeus Hoover – the high-powered New York City developer with plans to build a $5 billion basketball arena in Brooklyn.

Spirit winds up playing the developer against opponents of the project as he plots to get a song he’s written into the hands of BScott, the mogul Brooklyn rapper who’s invested in the basketball team and the project.

“The Street Singer” is a take-no-prisoner satire of present day New York City and Brooklyn, replete with big city politicians, developers, gentrification, poverty, hipsters, celebrity adulation and interracial co-mingling.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “The Street Singer: A Tale of Sex, Money and Power in a Changing Brooklyn”?

Stephen Witt: As a journalist, I covered the $5 billion Atlantic Yards project that brought the NBA’s New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn. I thought this would Continue reading 5 Minutes, 5 Questions With… Stephen Witt, author of The Street Singer: A Tale of Sex, Money and Power in a Changing Brooklyn

Aiola stood six feet, three inches in her bare feet. Her measurements were 40-26-40. Her body was literally sculpted. That was to be expected of the new resident leader of The Blamazons, a species of black women who were tall, well-developed and totally ran their own island, Blamazonia. They hired men to work, provide them with sperm for babies and pleasure. Beyond that, they had no use for them. The sisterhood provided all else that was required.

Aiola was the only daughter of Aahna who had reigned from age 25 to 50. Now at 25, it was Aiola’s turn. Aahna was a bit concerned because her daughter was hot-headed and volatile. She was also not interested in having children.

When male children were born, they were raised and then sent to other islands. The girls had the option to stay or leave. The boys were all tattooed with the names of their mothers to avoid cross-breeding.

Aiola didn’t like that component of giving away children, so she vowed to never have them. There were many shake-ups planned.

“Learn How to Meditate Properly” is designed to help the reader quickly find his/her most compatible meditation technique. You learn the anatomy of a meditation technique plus a large variety of meditation objects (things to focus on) to choose from. Then you learn how to experiment and narrow it down to the technique that works best for you.

After all this, you learn all the tricks for making meditation much easier and more busy-proof so that you create a powerful momentum of peace on even the busiest of time schedules.

The way that the book title ties in is this. The most proper way to meditate is to find which meditation technique you are most compatible with and find your most compatible ways of integrating meditation into daily life and of preparing the mind and body for a meditate experience. Meditation is the art of falling in love, and you want a meditation object that you can truly fall in love with.

You also learn the proper way of working with your thoughts and emotions as they arise into consciousness. There’s a common misconception that meditation is about clearing your mind. It’s not. You’ll go nuts trying to do that. It’s about being present with moment to moment experience, including thoughts, sensations and emotions.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “Learn How to Meditate Properly: A Meditation Guide for Beginners”?

Tom Von Deck: I wrote another book called “Oceanic Mind – The Deeper Meditation Training Course”. This one covers more than 60 meditation techniques, warm ups and calming activities you can interweave into your schedule.
