5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Adrienne Thompson, author of Bluesday
(Pink Cashmere Publishing Company)

Bobbie Brooks is living the life she’s always dreamed of: a life full of music, success, and love—or so it seems. Suddenly, her perfect world shatters, leaving her alone, broken and penniless. In order to heal, Bobbie must confront the demons of both her past and present. Will she be strong enough to move into her future and make a new start with an old flame?

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Bluesday?

Adrienne Thompson: I am a serious music lover, and initially, I knew I wanted to write a book about a singer. After attending an awesome blues concert (Calvin Richardson and Tre Williams), I decided on a blues singer. As I began to write, the story took on a life of it’s own.

JP: What sets Bluesday apart from other books in the same genre?

AT: I believe the uniqueness of my voice and style sets it apart. Also, the formatting of the book is unique. Each chapter title is the title of a famous blues song. Bluesday is a marriage of the things I love most in the world: music, love, and inspiration.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Bluesday getting out to the public?

AT: Perseverance, determination and faith in God. I knew this was a story that needed to be told and to be read. I was willing to lose sleep and work very hard to make it happen…

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Bluesday?

AT: My process is organic in every sense. I always know the basic premise of the book, the beginning, middle and the end. But it’s not until I begin to write that the details begin to flow. I don’t outline or “plot” the story. I simply write.

Bluesday is actually the third novel I’ve written, but it is the first novel I’ve published. It took me about 5 months to write it from beginning to end.

JP: What’s next for Adrienne Thompson?

AT: My second novel, Been So Long, will be released in early 2012. I have plans to also release two more novels during the spring of 2012, including Lovely Blues – the follow-up to Bluesday.
