5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Carolyn D. Ward, author of The Realm of the Unseen
(Open Book Publishing)
“The Realm of the Unseen” is written in allegorical genre to tell the story of the Bride of Christ, the Church, as she attains to the Crown of Life. In order to do so, the heroine, Christianity must become one with the Armor of God that Paul wrote about in Ephesians 6:10-18.
The story depicts the spiritual warfare that transpires behind the scenes as we pray, seek God, stand for answers to prayer, and thereby grow up into Christ in all things.
“The Realm of the Unseen” is unique in that this is the first book written that the Armor of God is animated, comes to life, in allegorical fashion, and speaks. The Shield of Faith, the Helmet of Salvation, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the belt of Truth, all have persona’s and speak according to their persona.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “The Realm of the Unseen”?
Carolyn D. Ward: I have included how “The Realm of the Unseen” was inspired in my Preface in the book. The desire to write this book was given to me as an assignment by God when I was 12 years old. I was born premature. My parents were told to leave me in the hospital because I would not live, to which they responded that if I were going to die, I would die at home with them.
I lived, but I had nosebleeds which required emergency medical treatment at the hospita. I was packed in ice to stop the bleeding. This continued up until I was 12 years old, when I had one in my sleep and died.
Jesus said that He had something that He would like for me to do for Him and asked if I would I do it. I said yes. He said, “You have to go back then.” I never had another nosebleed after that.
Years later, in prayer in regard to what happened, God told me to read Ezekiel 16:6, which reads, “I came by and saw you drowning in your own blood, and I said Live!” The Lord also told me, “I will teach you and mold you Myself.” So, basically, throughout my life I was taught and molded for writing this book.
I know that these things are hard for some people to grasp or believe, but they are true nonetheless.
JP: What sets “The Realm of the Unseen” apart from other books in the same genre?
CDW: I believe it is because “The Realm of the Unseen” has the stamp of God all through it. It was given to me by Him, and it was initiated by Him. This is His book, His story, His message to the Body of Christ for this end time.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “The Realm of the Unseen” getting out to the public?
CDW: As a Christian author, prayer was and is the catalyst for the success of “The Realm of the Unseen”. The hand of God is upon it, and it was all done in His season and timing.
I actually finished the book in 2006. I had to wait until it was the spiritual timing for it to be released. When it was time, God gave me the go ahead. Here we are.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish “The Realm of the Unseen”?
CDW: “The Realm of the Unseen” was started in 2001 and finished in 2006. Again, it was because of the leading of the Lord. To move when he moves and to be still when He is still was a lesson learned that will benefit me all my life in my Christian walk.
I learned to listen to the voice of the Lord and to sense His moving. Much like the Hebrews of old did when the cloud moved by day or the pillar of fire moved by night. They would move only then as God directed.
JP: What’s next for Carolyn D. Ward?
CDW: I am working on a novel called “The Chosen.” The first book, “The Realm of the Unseen” is to the Church, the Body of Christ. The second book is specifically to Jewish people that God is calling to come to belief in Jesus (Yeshua) in these last days. As He said He would do, He is preparing events so that the prophecies He spoke years ago through the Apostles can take place.

From Carolyn D. Ward:
“The Realm of the Unseen” is a book full of symbolism and should be read prayerfully. It is a spiritual warfare book. Though written in novel format, it has a lot of teaching of the Word of God in it.
Teaching the Word of God is my calling, and it shows in my writing of The Realm of the Unseen. I was given the directive, many, many years ago to, “Study to show thyself approved unto God. A workman that needeth not to be ashamed. Rightly dividing the Word of God.” (2nd Timothy 2:15).
I have spent many years studying at the feet of Jesus, so to speak, being led by the Holy Spirit and asking questions. Sometimes getting up at 4 am to pray and seek God, to listen to Him, and to grow and learn from Him so that I can rightly divide, or teach, the Word of God. I know that people will be truly uplifted and encouraged to stand therefore as Ephesians 6:10-18 teaches.

I bought this book and am halfway finished. But I’m gonna read it again and definitely refer back to it. It really is packed with sound teaching. This other realm is real and we need to be aware. Thank you for saying what needs to be said.
