Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write The End of the Rainbow?
Dontá Morrison: My book was inspired by situations I actually experienced. I found that writing was therapeutic and helped me process a lot of the drama. Before I knew it, I had penned an entire novel.
JP: What sets The End of the Rainbow apart from other books in the same genre?
D.M: My book is different because anyone who has ever been in a relationship, regardless of sexual orientation, will be able to relate to the characters. It is also uncommon for a book about an African-American gay couple to venture into the realm of spirituality; which I have found to be a hot topic of discussion for many book clubs. The story is a roller coaster ride that has an ending no one ever suspected.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to The End of the Rainbow getting out to the public?
D.M: I am all about networking and reaching out to people who have successfully made it to where I am trying to go. It was that mindset that helped me avoid a lot of the pitfalls and roadblocks that could have further deterred the release of my book. I sat and listened to other authors speak of their experience and applied it to my journey.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish The End of the Rainbow?
D.M: I usually write when the rest of the city is snuggled up in the bed. For some strange reason I get motivated in the early a.m hours when I should be asleep. It honestly took me two months to write my book. I was extremely focused and purging so much onto the pages that I literally lived in front of the computer.
JP: What’s next for Dontá Morrison?
D.M: I am currently completing the sequel to The End of the Rainbow which will answer the many questions fans have about the characters. I am beyond excited about the sequel because the storyline is phenomenal. If all goes according to plan, it will be available January 2012.

I look forward to hearing from people who have taken the time to read my work. I know that there are a myriad of great authors to choose from, so anyone who decides to make The End of the Rainbow their selected choice of reading is sincerely humbling for me.
