JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Lisa Green, Editor-In-Chief of Amethyst Music News (AMN) Magazine
(http://www.AmethystMusicNews.blogspot.com/)
“Growing up, I wanted to either become an attorney or do something in the music/entertainment industry. I actually wanted to sing initially, but I later took a deeper interest in the business side of the industry.”
~ Lisa Green, from anCor & Company interview
Joey Pinkney: What was your inspiration for creating AMN Magazine?
Lisa Green: My inspiration for creating AMN Magazine was born out of the need to see real talent get recognized. It had become apparent to me that music started to be more and more about gimmicks and popularity and less about raw talent.
I wanted to bring attention back to great R&B music, as well as offer a platform to shed light on hot up-and-coming music talent. My magazine spotlights up and coming models and fashion designers as well.
JP: What sets your magazine apart from the competition?
LG: The thing that sets AMN apart from other magazines is that my magazine is geared to independent music.
There are tons of exceptionally talented music artists across all genres who are unsigned. I have found that some of the unsigned artists are just as talented, if not more so, than those artists with record deals. I wanted to create a magazine that would bring attention to that.
JP: What contributed to your decision to make the magazine an online publication?
LG: Making AMN an online magazine was a great move, I feel. People are more and more embracing modern technology and getting away from the way things have been done in the past. That includes the way people are reading books and magazines. Technology has made it possible to read books online or with hand-held devices. Picking up paperback versions of publications is slowly but surely becoming obsolete.
I feel that one reason why my magazine has been so well received is because I care about the music and real talent in music and fashion. I want to give people a great publication and valuable information, and it’s really helpful to me as a publisher to be able to provide that to my readers at the click of a button. Creating an online publication has definitely made it more accessible, and therefore, has contributed to its success.
JP: What role does social media networking play in AMN Magazine’s success?
LG: Social media networking has been extremely essential to the success of my magazine. I have met some amazing people in fashion, music and journalism on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Such social networking applications has allowed me to reach far more people than I could have any other way. It’s truly been an asset.
JP: What’s next for Lisa Green?
LG: Great question! I have tons of things in the works. My objective is to do whatever I can to show support for the kind of music I grew up listening to and love so much. So, I have a lot of exciting things up my sleeve. Stay tuned…
