JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Omoruyi Uwuigiaren, author of The Adventures of Nihu
(Human Change Communications)
This novel is a classic legend of a young hero’s magical journey through a fantasy world where he is tested with incredible challenges that can only stem from the soul of the author’s genuine African culture and vivid imagination.
Being falsely accused of a crime, Nihu, a tribal African boy, is banished to the Lonely Forest. In order to regain his freedom, he must find a way to defeat the unbeatable and front challenges that draw analogies to our own realities. Like The Lord of the Rings, this epic high fantasy novel carries the reader to another time and place.
Nihu gets sucked into a world inside of a stone, visits a powerful ruler in an underwater city, and befriends a group of refugees. Based on mythical and historic African traditions, Uwuigiaren’s magical twists to The Adventures of Nihu will not only allow an audience of all ages to escape their own realities, but draw them into a world of high hopes, powers, and unimaginable desires.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write The Adventures of Nihu?
Omoruyi Uwuigiaren: The inspiration was in many parts. First my childhood experience, which was vital to this work and my favorite trilogy – The Lord of the Rings.
JP: What sets The Adventures of Nihu apart from other books in the same genre?
OU: What makes this story unique is my decidedly African perspective; what makes it so very readable is a voice and writing style as soft as an African savannah. Though written for middle-grade readers, I write in a literary style with a prevailing sense of ethics. Also, The Adventures of Nihu can be enjoyed by adults. My distinctive narrative voice will delight readers of all ages.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to The Adventures of Nihu getting out to the public?
OU: Hard work, I believe writing is in the rewriting, and my prevailing sense of ethics.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish The Adventures of Nihu?
OU: Because writing is in the rewriting, I start with drafts, about two or more, before typing on the computer with the final copy. I write very fast. The Adventures of Nihu was finished under a month, not including the time it took to edit the piece.
JP: What’s next for Omoruyi Uwuigiaren?
OU: My upcoming eBook, The City Heroes and Other Stories From the Heart of Africa will be published soon by Open Books.

Hi Joey and Mr. Omoruyi Uwuigiaren,
I really enjoyed the interview. I have my copy in my Kindle ready to read. I’m going to start it today. What captures me is how Mr. Uwuigiaren describes his writing voice. I think he said as “soft as the African savannah.” Wow, that just left me breathless. I like hearing a young man talk about “ethics” too. Can’t wait to read about the obstacles the hero will face. Also, I want to know how ethics plays a part in his decision making. Thanks again to both of you. Will come more often to read the interviews. Oh. looking forward to reading your soon coming short stories. Will come back to enjoy the links.
