JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Te-Erika Patterson, author of It’s Not A Sin To Be Single
(Self-Published)
It’s Not A Sin To Be Single is a self-help guide to understanding and appreciating your single life. Laced with humour, psychology and inspiration, this book will relieve the negative stigma associated with being single by exploring reasons why there is so much pressure to be married.
It offers 101 Smart Ass Responses to the question, “Why are you still single?”, Chapters on Being Miserably Single, Single Parenting and even a chapter on pleasing yourself sexually. It also offers a bonus chapter of exercises to do when the reader is feeling the “I’m Still Single” Blues.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write It’s Not A Sin To Be Single?
Te-Erika Patterson: I have been single for 9 years and after writing this book, I have finally made peace with it.
JP: What sets It’s Not A Sin To Be Single apart from other books in the same genre?
TLP: Most self-help books about relationships urge you to do certain things to attract love or change your behavior in some way. It’s Not A Sin To Be Single encourages you to accept who you are right now, create an adventurous life and leave the rest to the Universe.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to It’s Not A Sin To Be Single getting out to the public?
TLP: I have been an active blogger since 2003. I blog about my life’s adventures and mishaps. I am also a journalist, spoken word artist, and I have a YouTube channel filled with more than 100 inspirational and introspective videos. Eventually, one of my mediums of expression will allow my book’s message to be exposed.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish It’s Not A Sin To Be Single?
TLP: It took less than 6 weeks to write It’s Not A Sin To Be Single. I wrote one chapter a day for a total of 10 days, and the rest was tweaking and editing while I attended graduate school. I used a formula that I share on my website My Savvy Sisters in a post called How To Write Your Own Self Help Book in 12 Days.
JP: What’s next for Te-Erika Patterson?
TLP: I am the publisher of My Savvy Sisters.COM (www.mysavvysisters.com), a website dedicated to providing resources, information and inspiration for women so that they can survive and thrive in life.
By posting original interviews of women who have been successful, resources for women in crisis, consumer tips and integrating my own version of inspirational videos and articles, I hope this venture reaches the masses and becomes a staple resource service for women everywhere.
