5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Tina Martin, author of Vacation Interrupted
(Self-Published)
Carmen’s life and marriage to Kenneth was perfect… That is, until she found out she had breast cancer and would have to have a mastectomy to save her life. Unable to deal with his wife’s possible fate, Kenneth leaves her and flees to the West Coast, hoping to forget about her and start over.
Carmen, a day shift nurse, suffered for six months without her husband by her side. Now it’s time to rediscover herself. She takes a much-needed vacation to Virginia Beach for much-needed relaxation. All is well until she discovers that her ex-husband is vacationing at the same beach.
This is not a full-length novel. It is a short-story, available on Kindle only for $0.99.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Vacation Interrupted?
Tina Martin: I wrote the book because I wanted readers to see the emotional toll breast cancer has on a woman and her man. If a man truly loves a woman who has been affected by cancer, then his body suffers just as much as hers.
JP: What sets Vacation Interrupted apart from other books in the same genre?
TM: My short story teaches an important life lesson. It’s a story about struggle and true love.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Vacation Interrupted getting out to the public?
TM: People can relate to what I write. I don’t try to sugar-coat or lace my story with ‘big’ words to appear to be someone I’m not. I keep it real and simple.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Vacation Interrupted?
TM: It took a couple of months to write Vacation Interrupted. I knew when I started that I didn’t want this story to be a long one, but I still made sure I got the main points across while giving my readers an entertaining story in the process.
JP: What’s next for Tina Martin?
TM: In the spring of this year (March/April 2012), Xpress Yourself Publishing will be releasing my third novel, The Baby Daddy Interviews. I am greatly looking forward to talking about this novel with my readers. It’s going to be another great read, Tina Martin style!

This is a very powerful story. Cancer. The pressure that sickness has on marriage. The hurt feeling and the anxiousness. These are the things that people go through that not many are willing to speak about.
I think this book is a great segue between publications for Ms. Martin. A great, short read, Vacation Interrupted should be a gem for many readers.
You are correct Joey and thanks for interviewing me! A lot of times, when you think about breast cancer, no one really pays attention on the toll it takes on the man…it’s usually just the woman. I hope to shed some light from both perspectives.
