Diallo Nkenge Frazier, author of Hood Hieroglyphics
(Publish America)
My book is a book of poems that tell my story as well as the general story of growing up in an oppressive environment. I would describe it as Angoric Expressionism through poetry.
If you don’t know what Angoric Expressionism is, it is an Art form that is created through pain. This style was developed by the Modern Black Painter Reginald Rogers. The book is really about hood- and self-liberaton.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Hood Hieroglyphics?
Diallo Nkenge Frazier: I wrote this book out of frustration with my people and the regression we have gone through mentally, physically and spiritually. I see a great people, and I am talking about Black folk that have settle for being poor, uneducated and powerless. I thought if I write this book, hopefully, I can wake the sleeping giants in the Black communities.
JP: What sets Hood Hieroglyphics apart from other books in the same genre?
DNF: The thing that I believe sets my book apart from other poetry books, or any book, is that I not only express my deepest emotions, but I also give a detailed plan of action for community networking and reconstruction of hood economics, health, and liberation. To me, this book is a blue print to develop a new Hood Nation.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Hood Hieroglyphics getting out to the public?
DNF: The real key to my success for everything I do is giving praise to the Most High and backing up my prayer with action.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Hood Hieroglyphics?
DNF: My writing process is just to write with emotion. If I am in a certain mood, I write about that mood because I will always come back to that writing and create from there. Deep emotional pain and joy spark me. It took about 3 months to write this book.
JP: What’s next for Diallo Nkenge Frazier?
DNF: Whats next for me is to keep building and get my book to the colleges around this country. That’s my next progression. From there, speaking venues on hood liberation. I just want my people to wake up and step up to reclaim our greatness.

I just want to add that me loving black folks and the hood has nothing with me not liking and appreciating other cultures. I just see that my house needs cleaning, so that’s my main concern.

Sounds very interesting.
Hood liberation…backing up prayer with action is a concept I embrace. Too many people sit down waiting on God to make everything better. “Its all in God’s hands.” No! Get up! Stand up! By the sweat of my brow Shall I eat bread. The Almighty helps those who help themselves. Love the conscious vibez, bro.
