JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Steven Morgan, author of SnowBunny
(KingPen Enterprises)
Just when she thought her life had changed, Morgan “Snow” Chambers’ precious soul would be violated again. After she is raped and inhumanly disrespected, Snow’s life would take another crucial blow when she discovers that she has contracted a deadly disease.
After reflecting on her unforgettable and tarnished past, the bitter and revengeful Snow devises a malicious plan, using her sexy body and alluring attitude to attract the lusting black men of Atlanta into her world of lies, deceit and premeditated murder.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write SnowBunny?
Steven Morgan: The motivation for SnowBunny came from an article that I read about interracial relationships. From there, the story just took off in my head.
Later on that night, I went home and wrote the first five chapters of the book. After I went over the first five chapters, I knew that SnowBunny would be something special because I couldn’t get the concept out of my head.
During this time, I was also writing another novel, Write or Die. I would write SnowBunny all night, and work on Write or Die during the day. It was hard, but when your heart is into something, it becomes a breeze. I felt that SnowBunny needed to be written because it is a story that educates and definitely entertains. It adds versatility to the urban lit world.
JP: What sets SnowBunny apart from other books in the same genre?
SM: When I told people about my main character being a white girl, they thought the story wasn’t urban fiction. After reading the novel, their opinions quickly changed.
SnowBunny is in a lane of its own because majority of urban novels have main characters that are black and the setting usually takes place in an urban environment. SnowBunny raises the bar for myself and my writing career, because I had to become a character that was of the opposite gender and race of myself.
SnowBunny was a challenge because I had to enter the mind of a young teen girl. That young girl happened to be white, so I had to dig deeper to get the most out of her character. Everything from the emotions she felt to her dialect was something I had to really focus on. I can’t name another book in urban fiction that can compare to it.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to SnowBunny getting out to the public?
SM: Word-of-mouth, social media websites, local advertising, book events, book clubs, street sales.
Anything that will help your book reach readers. Target marketing is very important in this business. You have to try a lot of different things to see what is most effective for your book. What works for someone else may not be beneficial for you.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish SnowBunny?
SM: When I write, the characters speak to me as the story develops in my head. Once I determine the concept for my story, I just follow the movie that plays in my head. It’s like the dream that we can never forget. The one when it feels like you’re really there, experiencing everything that is taking place. I’m just the ear for the characters that come to life in my head.
It took me about three months to write SnowBunny. I wrote the first five chapters in three days and carefully finished the remainder of the book in about two and a half months. I usually write late at night, because that’s when my characters come to life the most. Lately, since I’ve taken on more projects, my writing has been non-stop and now I only get to sleep about 3 or 4 hours a day.
JP: What’s next for Steven Morgan?
SM: I’m preparing for my next release The Addiction along with a few other projects that I will release later this year. Besides my upcoming novels, I’m also speaking with independent producers and directors for the movie I wrote titled “Elevator Massacres.” Any producers or directors that are interested about my movie, please feel free to email me.

Great book! Great interview!
This is so true, King Norman III. What a new and interesting direction to take with Urban Lit.
Many times, we get to used to the same ole same ole, we forget about the new and exciting ways that the boundaries of genres can be pushed into.
A white female getting raped and in turn seeking to victimize black males in one of the most well-known “Chocolate Cities” in the U.S. is nothing short of controversial. Although controversy is nothing new to Literature, let alone Urban Literature, SnowBunny is one of those books that’s significant because it generates attention on its own merit.
It’s not the genre, in and of itself, that makes this book a conversation piece. It’s the active creativity Mr. Morgan pursued as an artist that makes it what it is.
Kudos.
Thanks for the great interview as always. I decided reading this I wanted to check this out this book. Imagine my good fortune it is free on Kindle
