William Hayashi, author of The Darkside Trilogy
(Xlibris)
The Darkside Trilogy tells of what happens in the United States when the country discovers African Americans have been secretly living on the backside of the moon since before Neil Armstrong took his famous steps.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write The Darkside Trilogy?
William Hayashi: I wanted to write a story about the kinds of Black people I grew up with; educated, middle and upper middle class, with mostly two-parent households; the kind of Blacks that don’t exist in today’s American culture. I also wanted to produce a plot that had never been done before, and I did.
JP: What sets The Darkside Trilogy apart from other books in the same genre?
WH: The unique execution of the plot, the three-dimensional characters, and an understanding of American culture that didn’t require the usual invention of flawed people and character quirks to drive the plot forward.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to The Darkside Trilogy getting out to the public?
WH: Telling compelling stories that have characters who readers actually care about.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish The Darkside Trilogy?
WH: First, I come up with a really great ending, then I sit down and weave a story that leads to that ending. The first installment of the trilogy took nine months to complete. the next two installments took about six months each to complete.
JP: What’s next for William Hayashi?
WH: The second trilogy in the Darkside Universe. In this trilogy the focus is both close to home, as well as looks out across the galaxy.
