5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Samara King, author of Hot to the Touch
(Samara King Books)
A masked lover…
A year ago, Club Reign owner, Belinda Gilles, threw the first Grown & Sexy Masquerade Ball without a hitch. That was until she encountered a masked man, whose touch made her forget about her past. Did she dare to believe that her masked lover would show his face again?
What lies beneath…
When Jordan Harris discovers that Belle is the woman he encountered under the mask a year ago, he sets out to make her his, even if it means opening old wounds she’d vowed to never forgive him for.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Hot to the Touch?
Samara King: I’m often playing what-if at the initiation of a story. With Hot to the Touch, the idea was birthed from a article on wrongly-convicted men regaining their freedom.
JP: What sets Hot to the Touch apart from other books in the same genre?
S.K.: I write erotic romance with the backdrop subgenres of African American, Interracial and Multicultural characters. Though my writing highlights the sensuality between my characters, the story is just as pertinent, if not more so.
Hot to the Touch captures the tale of heroine Belinda Giles, a woman who has worked to get where she is, despite societal perception and hero, Jordan Harris, a man who has had his life marred by one chance incident. This story targets several key emotions of forgiveness, redemption and sensuality.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Hot to the Touch getting out to the public?
S.K.: I am multi-published. However, Hot to the Touch is my second self-published work and also the launch of my novella imprint, SK MINIs. The need to provide enjoyable and engaging sensual fiction was one key factor in launching this imprint. However, touching others with words remains my prime target during my writing career.
Hot to the Touch, as well as other titles within the imprint will put the focus back on romance, strong women and targets readers who may not have a lot of time to indulge in reading.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Hot to the Touch?
S.K.: I have to smile at this because my writing process is funky and varied. Sometimes you can find me up at the crack of dawn pounding the keys or in the early evenings or both.
I’m a single parent and work a full-time job as many writers do. What I’ve found is: you write when you can grab time.
Creating a story usually starts when a character shows up in front of me, reading an article or photo grazing. Then it’s off to the races. It took a month to complete Hot to the Touch.
JP: What’s next for Samara King?
S.K.: Currently, I am putting the finishing touches on the next SK MINI story, a 3-in-1, Dip Me In Chocolate, to be released on Valentine’s Day 2011.
Readers can look forward to quarterly releases from the SK MINIs line. I have paranormals and a historical planned, as well as a collaboration story with Author Chamsil coming spring 2011.
