5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
La Mont Anthony Wright, author of Poet’s Pursuit of Pleasure (An Emotional Affair)
(Graffiti Bleu)
Two star-crossed lovers who meet each other online through a poetic serenade. They decide to take their love affair off of the computer screen and into the real world. They find out quickly that the real love is amazingly different. They both live troubled and unconventional lifestyles. Not only do they have to fight for their love to survive, they have to fight for their very lives.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Poet’s Pursuit of Pleasure (An Emotional Affair)?
La Mont Anthony Wright: I wanted to tell a modern, urban love story in an unconventional way. A story that challenged peoples thinking of what love really is. I wanted to tell a story that was so random, you could not predict what was going to happen. I wanted to tell a tale so vivid, it made you question if it was really fictional.
JP: What sets Poet’s Pursuit of Pleasure (An Emotional Affair) apart from other books in the same genre?
LAW: I wrote this tale in the form of a screenplay. This style makes the dialogue between characters flow like music instead of the choppy “He said this/She said that” format. I also made the story flow like a feature-length poem. This makes for a soothing read because the words flow musically.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Poet’s Pursuit of Pleasure (An Emotional Affair) getting out to the public?
LAW: Patience and persistence. The work for an author doesn’t stop when you write the words The End. Oprah’s couch isn’t going to knock on your door. Your going to have to go find it.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Poet’s Pursuit of Pleasure (An Emotional Affair)?
LAW: For me, I had the storyboard in my head. Short of the character interactions, I knew basically how things were going to play out. I would only write when inspired, which is usually late night listening to a jazz tune. When I was not inspired, I did character development, research, timeline and fact checks for the book. This book took me four years to complete.
JP: What’s next for La Mont Anthony Wright?
LAW: Book Two in the “Poet’s Pursuit of Pleasure” series called “Intimate Rivalz”

This is not your typical love story, simply because there is nothing typical about love…
