Nikki Ransom, author of Hidden Butterflies: From Honor Roll to the Stripper Pole

Hidden Butterflies is a non-fiction epic tale follows Nikki, a young lady that had a promising future, through bouts of depression after the murder of her father, being married to an abusive, drug-addicted man, ending up homeless with four children, and how she finally took her life back from her abuser.
Hidden Butterflies serves as a cautionary tale two women that shows what can happen when we do not develop our own self-esteem and also the importance of instilling this self-worth in our daughters. My book takes a look into my past and illustrates the behavior of a woman with no self-love trying to fill that empty space with the love of a man.
My hope is that my tale will also motivate women to never give up on themselves, that their past does not dictate their future, and that it is never too late to take control over your own life.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Hidden Butterflies: From Honor Roll to the Stripper Pole?
Nikki Ransom: I never actually thought I would become a writer. After going through all of my ordeals, it just kind of hit me like a bolt of lightning to write. My experiences, my words and my compassion for other women moved me to write and reach out to others. I wanted to let them know no matter what, they will be okay if they believe in themselves and the power they have.
JP: What sets Hidden Butterflies: From Honor Roll to the Stripper Pole apart from other books in the same genre?
N.R.: After reading my book, my readers know me somewhat. They can relate to me. I am not a celebrity or some wealthy person writing “down” to them so to say. A lot of books like mine have been written by women who have slept with celebrities and what not, but I am just an everyday woman who went through everyday things just like everyone else. You can relate to me and my story. I let my readers know that I am here for them and even let them contact me.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Hidden Butterflies: From Honor Roll to the Stripper Pole getting out to the public?
N.R.: I never took “no” for an answer and I never gave up on making sure that my story and my message got out to the public. Writing the book was the easy part but getting it into the hands of the public is a whole different ball game. Its taken a lot of hard work, not giving up, and a lot of hustling!
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Hidden Butterflies: From Honor Roll to the Stripper Pole?
N.R.: For my first book, it took only a year from start to finish. My second is taking much longer than that though. I do not have a conventional process to writing my books especially since it’s my life and non-fiction. Just whatever is happening or whatever is in my heart, I write it out. Once I feel like I am done, I will go and polish it and put things in their place.
JP: What’s next for Nikki Ransom?
N.R.: I am currently writing my sophomore novel which will pick up where Hidden Butterflies left off. I am also adapting Hidden Butterflies into a stage play. Ideas hit me all of the time, so who knows what else I will do. I like to live life to the fullest. If I want to do it, then I am going to do it. As a Certified Master Sex Instructor, I also teach sex education classes to couples and women to help enhance their love lives.

Well what can I say, I laughed and cried and I have searched and searched for the book with no such luck in finding it as of yet, I must say that I have taken a deeper look at my life and the lives of those around me to see what can be done to chance the outcome of our futures and it just goes to show that even those that we would never make a mistake do, and in the words of my grandmother “But God”
