5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Allison “Essence M” Edwards, author of Broken Promises Never Mend
(Illuminnessence Publishing)
Tamika Adams never lost in anything she did as a child. Now all grown up, she’s seeking to win in the battle called Love. Soon she meets a suitable opponent in Quincy Thompson, a man who definetely brings his A-game and quickly sweeps her off her feet.
When their two worlds collide, its filled with passion, love and sex. However, lurking in the shadows are secrets and lies from the past that will turn their world upside down and cause their alliances to shift. Will they continue to play on the same side or will their fight for love simply be a recipe for disaster!?
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Broken Promises Never Mend?
Allison “Essence M” Edwards: The idea for my novel came from anger and frustration resulting from a strained relationship I had on my own. It began as a journal and grew into what became this novel after keeping track of instances and situations that adversely affected me.
JP: What sets Broken Promises Never Mend apart from other novels in its genre?
Essence M: My novel while “urban”, also embraces other genres such as mystery and erotica. I don’t think any other novel has combined those genres in a way that I have as I focus heavily on ALL, leaving the reader thrilled in more ways than one.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Broken Promises Never Mend getting out to the public?
Essence M: PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE….. Join contests such as this which get broadcasted all over the internet. Get out into the streets and meet with people who may be interested in reading. Contact book clubs, do book signings and, of course, utilize friends and family who are the best at word of mouth!
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Broken Promises Never Mend?
Essence M: My writing process begins when the sun goes down. I throw on some music, usually Pandora, put on my glasses, get some Mountain Dew and sunflower seeds. I begin to type for hours on end. I am able to stop after being in the zone. The sun is about to come up, and it’s time for a new day for normal people.
For me, it’s time for me to catch a nap and begin the process all over again. This book took about 2 years to complete because I republished it twice before I was ultimately satisfied. During the time I was writing my book, I was plagued with computer issues and sidelined with medical problems. I pressed on and was able to do it.
If there’s anyone out there that wants to write a book my advice is – DONT STOP!!
JP: What’s next for Allison “Essence M” Edwards?
Essence M: I am currently working on the sequel to this book which I’d like to release in Feb of 2011. It’s called Bound By Lies and takes over immediately where this one leaves off. It’s already created a buzz, and I cant wait to release it and let others see what has happened.
I hope to answer many questions and satisfy my readers, supporters and “fans”. I am also working on another novel unrelated to this one called Bittersweet which I will be releasing later on next year. I am scheduling book signings, radio interviews and so much more to get the word out about myself and my publishing company. 2010 has been a very good year and Im blessed!
