5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Angela Y. Hodge, author of Daybreak: Gaining Strength Through Our Pain
(Amani Publishing, LLC)

My book is a collection of poetry that I have written based on my journey of life: a life full of rejection, misunderstandings, illnesses, and trials.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Daybreak: Gaining Strength Through Our Pain?

Angela Y. Hodge: I got my inspiration from God to write this book. One night, I was going through a trial, crying out to him, as I being to pray there was a soft voice that whispered. It’s through your pain where you gain strength, share your testimony to inspire others to keep the faith.

JP: What sets Daybreak: Gaining Strength Through Our Pain apart from other books in the same genre?

A Y H: What sets my book apart from other books is for the next thirty-one days you will get an encouraging poem, prayers, or letter with a scripture to help you through the day. It’s at the break of day I observe a new dawn and a new horizon, in my Daybreak I gain strength to live. We must put the past behind, and move forward.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Daybreak: Gaining Strength Through Our Pain getting out to the public?

A Y H: As an Author, the keys to success that lead to my book getting out to the public is being loyal, and dedicated in what I do. Being visible in the community, volunteering, and joining different organizations.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Daybreak: Gaining Strength Through Our Pain?

A Y H: As an Author, my writing process is first hearing from God, acknowledge him in what directions to take, waiting on the answer, and while I am waiting I am writing, thinking, and at the end I have completed sometimes two to three poems, or prayers. It took me about 8 months to start and finish my book.

JP: What’s next for Angela Y. Hodge?

A Y H: What’s next, I am working on my next book. I am planning on making Daybreak into series. I also have different projects that is in the making.
