5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Angelia Vernon Menchan, author of FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOES? A Malcolm Black Novel
(MAmm PRODUCTIONS)
Malcolm and Cinnamon Black have weathered the storms of early marriage and a mayoral campaign that pulled every skeleton from the closet and threw it naked into the fray for all the world to see. Cinnamon was painted as a scarlet woman, and it nearly broke Malcolm’s resolve to run for mayor.
But they survived all that, and Malcolm is now the first Black Mayor of Center City, Florida. Will he and his beloved first lady, Cinnamon be able to make a difference or will they be stopped at every turn by the maneuvers and dramas of FAMILY, FRIENDS and FOES?
Read and you will find out, Angelia Vernon Menchan brings it once again. It’s the follow up to The Blacks’: LOVE’S POLITICS.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOES?
Angelia Vernon Menchan: I have actually published several books with many of the characters. This book is the followup to Mrs. Black? from 2009 and The Blacks: LOVE’S Politics from September 2011. It seems the readers cannot get enough of the storyline.
JP: What sets FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOES? A Malcolm Black Novel apart from other books in the same genre?
AVM: I am not even sure my books fit a genre. It is a family saga of flawed people who love and give hard and are always looking to do better, even when they mess up. Also, my characters are of all ages, demographics and success levels. I try in my writing to tell stories without gratuitous language, sex or violence. I term it “fictionalized truth”.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOES? getting out to the public?
AVM: I stay in touch with the pulse of what my readers seem to yearn for, and I use expected and unexpected venues for publicity. I use any opportunity to talk about my work and often use free books as a way to grasp customers.
On social networks, my goal is to let them know enough about me to want to read what I write. I also blog often in a couple of places. My personal blog is http://acvermen.blogspot.com and http://www.skirt.com/angel08.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOES? A Malcolm Black Novel?
AVM: I write in my head an on paper everyday. It usually takes me a couple of months to get the story down, before fine tuning. I have published 14 books since, January 30, 2006.
JP: What’s next for Angelia Vernon Menchan?
AVM: I am working on a memoir entilted, FROM UNCHURCHED GIRL, TO SAVED WOMAN and I am writing Aura Brown, Life Choices about a woman who falls in love with a man after years of thinking she was lesbian. It is an add on to the Black series.
