Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “Whispers From Hell”?

Edward V’Kanty: I have always been a fan of supernatural fiction and films, which, I think, is something I picked up from my mother. I remember being exposed to the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Rod Serling, Alfred Hitchcock, and Stephen King from a young age. I think those influences can be seen in my writing.

Also, a few stories are based on actual experiences of myself and of the experiences of others I have known.

JP: What sets Whispers From Hell” apart from other books in the same genre?

EV: The protagonists of each story within “Whispers From Hell” face choices similar to the choices faced by the heroes & heroines of Shakespeare’s tragedies. These aren’t just tales; they are parables for a modern age.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to Whispers From Hell” getting out to the public?

EV: Determination would have to be the ultimate key to success. It isn’t easy to pursue a dream, whatever that may be, and, beyond the hard work, talent, and everything else that goes into it, there must be an unrelenting determination.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish Whispers From Hell”?

EV: My writing process is probably more drawn out than is the case of most writers. I outline the project and write out the first 2-3 drafts on paper. My works don’t even see the computer until their probably three-quarters of the way finished.

“Whispers From Hell” was unique in that some of these stories were written before I ever had the intention of publishing them together as a collection. Between editing those older stories and writing the newer stories, I would estimate “Whispers From Hell” was ready for publication within six months.

JP: What’s next for Edward V’Kanty?

EV: I’m currently working on a 2-part project. Part 1 of this project will be a novella chronicling the case that was the start of the New York witch trials. It will be entitled “Testament” and will be a prelude to my upcoming full-length novel, “Dark Heritage.”
