JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Nancy Hendrickson, author of How to Write for Kindle
(Green Pony Press, Inc.)
“How to Write for Kindle” helps authors get published (and sold) on Kindle by showing them how to quickly write a quality book. The book also guides the reader through the best practices to make sure the book is found by buyers.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “How to Write for Kindle”?
Nancy Hendrickson: I have published many Kindle books. Having gone through a long learning process of how to format a book, and how to maximize Amazon’s own system for authors, I wanted to share the information with other writers.
JP: What sets “How to Write for Kindle” apart from other books in the same genre?
NH: I’m a fulltime author, with more than a dozen traditionally and self-published books as well as hundreds of magazine articles to my credit. While some books on this subject are written by simply scraping material off of the web, “How to Write for Kindle” is written from practical experience. I don’t just write about it – I do it!
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “How to Write for Kindle” getting out to the public?
NH: Fortunately, many people have read other of my books. When a new title is released, they’ve been great about buying the book and writing reviews. For me, the key to success as an author is in building relationships with my readers.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish “How to Write for Kindle”?
NH: Because I wanted to prove that a good book actually COULD be written in 72 hours, I wrote it in less than that time, keeping track of my hours during the project. My own process is exactly the same as I’ve outlined in the book – – have a great idea, a solid outline, figure out how many words need to go in each chapter, and then write! (AND EDIT!)
JP: What’s next for Nancy Hendrickson?
NH: I have co-authored a book with British author Michelle Campbell-Scott titled “Make Your Book Work Harder”. We pooled our various experiences to help authors make more sales by using other platforms and other known as well as little-known sites and resources. It will be released November 1 in print and digital formats.
“Writing is the best job in the world. I hope my book inspires more people to jump in and share all of their knowledge and experience.” ~ Nancy Hendrickson
