Norris Pimpton, author of The Project Diaries

The Project Diaries is a story of a family’s journey in Los Angeles through the eyes of a young boy. Take a ride as violence, death, abuse and drugs were his world. Feel all the joys and pains as the visions haunted a family just hoping to live the American dream.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write The Project Diaries?
Norris Pimpton: The inspiration came from pain I felt from the death of my mother. I carried it around for years until I decided one Mother’s Day to put my feeling out there in a poem on Facebook. From the poem came the book
JP: What sets The Project Diaries apart from other books in the same genre?
Pimpton: Well, my book is about my life growing up in Watts from my eyes. The abuse my mother went through by the hands of my father and all the craziness around us. I knew many family across the world have experienced household trauma and violence so what sets this apart from other book in the same genre is that this story is mine
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to The Project Diaries getting out to the public?
Pimpton: For me, it was deciding that I was going to do it or succumb to what I heard all my life: that I’d never make it as a writer. As a writer, I had to writer or what was the point?
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish The Project Diaries?
Pimpton: With my first book, the pain has been with me from childhood, so it wasn’t that hard to release what was inside me for so long. I wrote my mother’s poem on Mothers Day of 2010, and the book was released in September of the same year. My fiction book is taking a little longer because of the researching the mood I’m in.
JP: What’s next for Norris Pimpton?
Pimpton: I have a novel called Hotel 23, a compilation with Omar Tyree called Ebony Chronicles of Elevation and one called I Am Lisa Green. All are due out in 2012
