JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Demetrice Prince, author of The Madness In Love
(Self-Published)
This is the first installment in the series Reflections In Time. It is a collection of poetry about the different phases and stages of love. Love fosters madness. Sometimes it is good, and sometimes it is bad. Whichever it is, the truth is that love is madness, a tremendous melody of emotion: Love, Joy, happiness, Fear, Anger, Hurt, Lust.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write The Madness In Love?
Demetrice Prince: The inspiration for the book came from the personal experiences that I found myself in mostly during high school and after. I also wrote the book in hope that it would help someone out who might be going through the same situation.
Someone who reads the poetry in the book could be uplifted in knowing that I went through the very same thing that they are currently going through and see that I persevered and made it through.
JP: What sets The Madness In Love apart from other books in the same genre?
DP: There are many poetry books solely devoted to love/romance, however I feel that my book will strike a chord with readers based on the fact my book is based on my actual relationships.
Some of the other books are based on thoughts or writer’s observations, I can attest that every poem in this book, I have first hand experience.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to The Madness In Love getting out to the public?
DP: The main key that lead to my book getting out to the public was my determination and perseverance to overcome the situations that I experienced while taking other routes while trying to get to the point of being published.
Being a writer/poet has been my dream since I was little. I would not, or for that matter will not, let anyone or anything ruin that dream!
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish The Madness In Love?
DP: I really don’t have a set process to write. Whenever I do start writing, I go until things don’t mesh well together. I put the particular piece away for a few days.
If I line comes to me and I’m not near the paper I am working, I’ll just use my app on my phone to write my thoughts until I get back to the actual piece.
The actual writing of The Madness took about 4 years. Compiling and editing of the book took a little over two months to complete.
JP: What’s next for Demetrice Prince?
DP: Well, on the heels of The Madness In Love, I will be releasing the other two books in the The Reflections In Time series, Darkness in the Light and Pages From Life.
After that, I plan to release yet another Collection of poetry tentatively entitled Pen 2 Paper. I am also currently working on putting together a novel which is untitled at the time.
