Joey Pinkney: How do you stay in touch with the pulse of the needs of business leaders for all of these years?

David Finkel: By investing the time and energy to talk with and listen to business owners from a variety of industries, geographic locations, and business models share about their biggest obstacles and challenges, and their greatest opportunities. The main character, Brooke, is juggling her social life and school, but she has the typical hormonal issues any young adult has. From there, she blossoms into a scavenger for intimacy, lust and love. She sometimes finds it, but she manages to get herself in compromising positions figuratively and literally. It deals with the disappointment, embarrassment, heartaches, laughter, joy and consequences of relationships and love in life. There is a light to the end of the tunnel.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Love Pain & Ecstasy?

April Rencher: I wanted to write novels that are real and raw on the feelings and actions of a beginning sexual connoisseur. Stephanie Whitmore had it all together. A young, wealthy businesswoman, with a sexy, and positive attitude, engaged to a man women salivated to spend time in his company. Donnie Johnson, an all-American, successful computer analyst with a passion for mentoring troubled youth, loved women. After a long business trip, Stephanie arrived a day early to Donnie’s home to find her fiancé in a compromising position. With thoughts of suicide dancing in her head, and an evil voice encouraging her to kill herself, nothing could satisfy the pain in her heart but death. But God had other plans for her life, and once she listened to His voice, her life would be forever changed.

Pastor Daniel Winston served as the pastor of a large church in an urban community. A single man who longed to find a wife stayed in prayer asking God to bless him. When Stephanie rushed into his church covered in blood, he wanted to help her. When their hands touched, he experienced a spark that would ignite a fire in his heart so deep, he almost became blind to her issues and couldn’t determine if he was trying to help her or himself. But when God is involved, nothing is as it seems and with His plans, the road to redemption may be rough, but the results so fulfilling.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write Broken Spirit?

Rose Jackson-Beavers: My inspiration to write Broken Spirit came from hearing negative stories about pastors. When I read the newspapers, I always read about the negative things clergymen were doing in the church and how their actions hurt many of their congregants. It seemed like the focus wouldn’t be on the positive things that Leaders did, but rather on the poor decisions that the minority made. I like to write stories that show good pastors doing the work of God. Continue reading 5 Minutes, 5 Questions With… Rose Jackson-Beavers, author of “Broken Spirit”
