JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Prina Jackson
(ZyeCha, Inc.)

Joey Pinkney: Why is it important to have a great PR person?

Prina Jackson: Your public relations person is the most important person next to the manager. A bad PR person can make or break your career. The PR person tells the story. The PR person is supposed to make sure their client is represented right at all times.

Whatever story the client wants to be told needs to be relayed to the public so that it can be properly understood. The PR person is not afraid to stand up to the client or for the client. All of that falls on the PR person in the end.

There are a lot of people who carry that title, but very few actually know what really goes in it or what the title actually means. Anyone can take on the title “PR person”, but very few are successful.

JP: What sets your services apart from other professionals in the PR industry?

PJ: I think what sets me apart from other professionals in the public relations industry is that I am a one stop shop. We at ZyeCha Inc. can handle all your marketing, promotions and public relations needs at one place. We are passionate people when it come to people and business in general. I build my foundation off old fashion ways of life.

We believe in treating people the way you want to be treated. That alone will always set ZyeCha, Inc. apart from the massive professionals in the public relations industry. We have personal connections with all of our clients. If we take you on as a client, it’s more than just your money.

We care about your career and really want to help you reach your goals. We don’t take on clients we don’t believe in. We have to feel comfortable as well to even work your project.

JP: What role does social media networking play in the way that you do your job?

PJ: Social media networking plays an important role with public relations. With social media basically taking over, it is very important in not only my job but all entertainment and media. It’s easy for me to adapt because I am a people-person. I love meeting people and having a direct connection with them.

We are all one people. We are all alike. If I can touch someone’s life in the process by being introduced to them through my business, it’s such a great feeling. Once the campaign is over, that’s it. If I have left a lasting, changing impression then my job is done. This is what makes me feel self gratification for.

JP: What’s a typical week like? If no week is typical, then what was last week like?

PJ: Wow. Aww…get it, Mr. Pinkney! I love these questions. OK, now back to the question. Dang, that’s a good one.

First thing I have to say is that I am so blessed to work in the same company with all of my clients. A typical week for me is keeping up with the schedule of Founder/CEO of “Exclusive Fashion & Furs”, The Fur King. Being his PR & Director of Operations, “keeping up” is a must.

From the first time we met, I knew how hectic his schedule was. It is easy for me because I’m naturally a multi- tasker. I balance things pretty well once I get into the groove. Of coarse, working towards the process of launching ZyeCha, Inc. in Jan 2010. I also handle PR for The Fur King’s other company “Bosses That Meet Bosses” and his stylist Fallon Seaborn.

I am the publist for double-platinum producer “The Fabulous Moonshyne Brown”, and the former First Lady of Dipset, Jha Jha (both of Anti Robot Society). “The Landing” Mixtape Drops in 2010 as well as several joint ventures with my business manager Nisha Managment.

JP: What’s on the horizon for Prina Jackson?

PJ: Next for me. I am doing some PR work with an upcoming documentary entitled Kamikazes Deathography: 4 Teens, 5 Days, a Deathwish and a Video Camera by Linfahrenheit. I have some upcoming projects with Yum Yum Entertainment and Live On Air Radio Show “Return of The Boom Bap”. Nisha Management Radio is launching real soon.

I am also working with a friend of mine in Ghana named Le Maxque on his Anti Breast Caner Campaign: The Romantic Killer Of Ghana and Beyond. This is a monumental moment for us because this is the first time Africa has acknowledged breast cancer as a serious problem.

Le Maxque is actually getting help from Ghana’s government. We are now looking for help with funding the infared breast screening machines for the free breast cancer screening. We are looking to commission the first screening site in March 2010 in Ghana. (Le Maxque has the #1 tradional song in Ghana right now.)

For myself, I have so many dreams to accomplish and things I want to do. I am going to hopefully finish writting my book. You never know what I am going to do next. I love challenges and people saying no. I love taking risks. Most of all, I love seeing people successful. I am blessed, and I have to bless someone else. Thank you so much for this interview. I loved it.

5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Bernard Boulton, author of Do You Wanna Be Made Whole?
(Boulton Publishing)

(One of the first ten people to comment on Bernard Boulton’s author interview will win a free copy of Do You Wanna Be Made Whole?)

Do You Wanna Be Made Whole? is a story about a pastor and three men. The pastor, James Maxwell, has dedicated his life and ministry to empowering men to live successful lives.

When three of Pastor Maxwell’s spiritual sons go through crises, Pastor Maxwell is there to lead them to spiritual wholeness.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Do You Want to be Made Whole?

Bernard Boulton: I wanted to write about friendships among men. I had an idea of three men who were friends from childhood moving into together, each man dealing with a serious problem.

JP: What sets Do You Want to be Made Whole? apart from other Christian fiction novels?

BB: What sets my book apart is the story itself. The characters are unique. It’s a book about men, something that I’ve not seen a lot of in the Christian fiction genre.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Do You Want to be Made Whole? getting out to the public?

BB: The keys to my success have been determination. Once I got into the writing of this stroy, I was bound to finish. Another key is focus. I kept my eye on the prize which was a published work. A third key was team. I brought on a team a group of talented editors who taught me and challenged me in the art.

The most important key was destiny. I believe that one of my purposes in this world is to finish what God has given me to do. That includes writing stories that will ENCOURAGE, EMPOWER AND ENTERTAIN.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Do You Want to be Made Whole?

BB: I’m not sure what to call my writing process. I write in the mornings, and I write until I’m finish for the day. It took me five years to write and complete this book. I’m sure that’s too long.

I first started writing in longhand. That took me a year. I then started transcribing my written words on a computer which was another year. The editorial process was two years. Once that was completed, I had a novel ready for publication.

JP: What’s next for Bernard Boulton?

BB: I’ve written a nonfiction inspirational work on the favor of God. I hope to release that one this year. I will write the sequel to Do You Wanna Be Made Whole.

5 Minutes, 5 Questions With… Julia Press Simmons, author of Begonia Brown: A Philadelphia Story

JoeyPinkney.com Exclusive Interview
5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Julia Press Simmons, author of Begonia Brown: A Philadelphia Story
(Queen Midas Books)

(One of the first ten people to comment on Julia Press Simmons’ author interview will win a FREE copy of Begonia Brown: A Philadelphia Story from JoeyPinkney.com)

Begonia’s carefree world has been turned upside down. Forced to become the head of her household, she has to trade her paintbrush in for a switchblade and her love of art into a love affair with the hood. Lying, stealing and turning tricks, Begonia will do any and everything she can to protect her sisters from the ugliness of the world. However, it just isn’t enough…

When her younger sister Violet, desperate to escape the hell her life, is seduced by an up-and-coming corner boy. Their baby sister Daisy is riddled with disease that could be fatal if not cared for, Begonia is caught between the hard knocks of the streets and the nightmare of her home life.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write “Begonia Brown”?

Julia Press Simmons: There was an abandoned house next door to my childhood home. One day coming home from school, I noticed that a family moved in. The mom was on crack. The kids were self-sufficient. There was no father around.

They only squatted in the house for a month or two. But the look of them, the strength of them, burned into my memory. Although “Begonia Brown” isn’t about that family, it is a representation of them and many other homeless, faceless, nameless families in the hood scratching out a living.

JP: “Begonia Brown” brings to light a story seldom given a time for true reflection. Years from now, what effect do you think this book will have on your readers in terms of the plight it covers?

JPS: I would hope “Begonia Brown” sparks action and gives a voice to the timid. I hope that it finds its way into the hands of people living that life and in turn offers some small comfort. “Begonia Brown” speaks to their souls and lets them know that they are not invisible.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to “Begonia Brown” getting out to the public?

JPS: I have this corny quote from the movie Galaxy Quest on my wall. “NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER!” That’s my mantra.

I learned a lot with my first book, “Strawberry Mansion”. I made more mistakes than I care to admit. I will say what everyone says at the risk of sounding redundant: do your research!

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish “Begonia Brown”?

JPS: I finished “Begonia Brown” in six months. I have to start with an outline. Then I give myself chapter deadlines. I can crank out five thousand words in one sitting at a book store or library. Then I won’t write a page in weeks. I go with the flow!

JP: What’s next for Julia Press Simmons?

JPS: I have a Blog Talk Radio show which premiered 12-10-09. I will be in the studio during January to record my new poetry CD, and my third book drops in February! Iz buzy…lol
