“K-Rho: The Sweet Taste of Sisterhood” chronicles the strength of sorority life for three Copper Road University sophomores. Track star Kiara Michaels didn’t expect to find two lifelong friends at her sorority membership interview. But life had other plans, leading her to meet Donna—a Bible quoting straight talker—and Gloria—a loquacious high achiever.

In the semesters following membership induction, Kiara confesses a festering secret, Donna steers a bumpy course with her unfaithful boyfriend, and Gloria can’t find a love match. When a lustful encounter and brutal assault turn Kiara’s collegiate experience upside down, the two friends are her saving grace.

Fast-forward ten years later and Kiara can’t balance life’s increasing responsibilities, Donna has departed a broken marriage, and Gloria can’t reconcile feelings of attraction for a close friend.

The book’s message is about the power of sorority sisterhood helping to deal with life’s situations, good and bad.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “K-Rho: The Sweet Taste of Sisterhood”?

La Toya Hankins: I was inspired to write “K-Rho: The Sweet Taste of Sisterhood” because I didn’t see a piece of fiction that addressed the strength of sisterhood among African American sorority members. I believe sorority memberships have helped thousands of women overcome life’s difficulties and sparked life-long friendships. Pierre-André François is the most popular soccer player in Haitian history. He has a well-kept secret; he is the feared Haitian assassin, known as The Little Rose. He kills with style and finesse, like a famous painter who brushes with endless strokes of red, and signs his work with a rose.

After he assassinates a popular Haitian senator, The Little Rose finds himself the hunted by an unknown psychopathic killer. The assassin has always been confident in his deadly skills, until he faces the machete-carrying killer.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “The Deadly Rose, An Assassin’s Tale”?

J.M. Lominy: I have always had a love for history. After visiting Haiti in 2001, I rekindled my love for the country and its rich history. It was this love of history that inspired the writing of “The Deadly Rose, An Assassin’s Tale”. Continue reading 5 Minutes, 5 Questions With… J.M. “Dear ______, Are You Missing Your Calling?” is a non-fiction book that uses the invitation as a metaphor to encourage readers to chronicle their most significant and important life events whether joyful or painful to help develop a clear path and direction to understanding our callings and purposes.

The events of our lives are like a road map that becomes key to opening our minds to accept the invitation God has extended to each one of us. Recognizing most people at some point will address the question of calling and purpose, I incorporated personal experiences and inspiring real-life lessons of people who connected to their callings even though enduring unimaginable adversities only to find their true purpose.

If deep within lies a burning desire for something more, something deeper, the stories in this book will inspire and help you to remain focused on the path. We have all received a personal invitation to use the gifts and talents so divinely given to us. You can choose to accept the invitation with an RSVP or send regrets, I cannot come.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “Dear ____, Are You Missing Your Calling?”?

Sheila L. Agnew: I am deeply inspired by my experiences and people. I keep notes and journals about life, situations and my spiritual journey. Often, people ask the question, “What is my purpose”? Some people are confident they are living their purpose, others not. The inspiration for this book was the people who question their purpose. Continue reading 5 Minutes, 5 Questions With… Sheila L.
