“Intimacy: How to Get More of It”, by Jodi Ambrose, is a quick handbook full of great wisdom for a woman to fine tune her approach to dealing with the man in her life. All of the info is geared towards getting more of what you want in terms of love and affection.

With “Intimacy”, think less text book and more Cliff’s notes. Ambrose is more like a cool aunt rather than Dr. Ruth. I like that Ambrose starts the book with a quick discussion about what this book is and what it isn’t, then gives you a list of 20 items to increase the likelihood of intimacy followed by a chapter for each of the items. This makes “Intimacy” read like an open book test on the average man. Continue reading JoeyPinkney.com Book Review – “Intimacy: How to Get More of It” by Jodi Ambrose

Snowbunny” by Steven Morgan had me scratching my head from beginning to end – and not in a good way. Snow, the main character, is a white girl trapped in Urban Fiction Hell. Every stereotypical character made their appearance in “Snowbunny,” from the drunken, abusive stepfather to the smack-talking whore to the uber-rich drug dealer to the neck-rolling gold digger. They and more were all present without adding substantial depth to the story.

Morgan “Snow” Chambers is a white teenager, born and raised in Springfield, IL, who generally hates Black men while being sexually attracted to them. Her father was killed by a drunk driver, who was a Black man. Her mother got caught up with an abusive Black man who raped Snow, killed Snow’s mother and then killed himself in front of Snow after she regained consciousness. Parentless, Snow hops on a bus to Miami and starts a new, adventure-filled life – at the tender age of 16.

“Running and Dancing” is a posthumously published novel by Carol Fenner. Set in the late 1910s, this book is a coming-of-age story about two Black girls, Bertine and Alma, in rural Western Michigan who explore the vibrancy of life.

I was hooked on “Running and Dancing” from first chapter. Bertine and Alma’s initial adventure captured me in a way that kept me curious about where the story can go and how it will end. As the story progresses, the true beauty of this book comes through. Carol Fenner’s word choice is impeccable. She has a way with words that describes scenes, thoughts and characters with such clarity that you know exactly what’s going on, even if you haven’t experienced what’s going on in the story.
