Enter The Mind Of A Woman Scorned. Francine Styles receives a visit from two detectives one fateful night announcing her husband’s death. She later finds out that his killer is another man that he has been having an extramarital affair with. Now she is on a mission to end the lives of men that lead a similar double life — a life of deception that their partners are unaware of.

Witness each murder firsthand as Francine’s wit and cunning continue to develop with each death. Even Fran’s trusted psychiatrist is nothing more than a helpless pawn in her quest for notoriety. Unable to pinpoint her whereabouts or deduce who is next on her sadistical list of names, she is labeled “The Revlon Killer” by law enforcement and media — a name given to her based on what she does to her victims after she kills them. Like the black widow spider, she seduces her victims before killing them in cold blood!

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write Chalk Outline Confessions?

David L: I got the idea to write Chalk Outline Confessions from my love for well-written mystery and suspense movies. Historically, movies (as well as books) that involve anything related to serial killers have been overlooked and unmentioned. My premise for this book was premeditated: very little exposure has been given to serial killers.

Most (if not all) serial killers are typically White middle-class males. I wanted to reverse that trend and succeeded. My antagonist is a Black, female character. Like most women I’ve encountered throughtout my life, she is very calculating and methodical in her approach to each and every one of her victims!

JP: What sets Chalk Outline Confessions apart from other novels in its genre?

DL: Chalk Outline Confessions is different from any book from its genre for more than just what has been explained in the first question. First and foremost, the main character has completely rationalized why her actions are logical. Even more importantly, she has a required rite of passage.

In many novels written by some of the “top” authors, the book’s theme is surrounded by its character’s quest for right vs. wrong. My character takes that quest and combines it with the need for vindication. Secondly, Chalk Outline Confessions is written using an assortment of writing styles that accomplishes its mission in a way that does not confuse the reader: first person vs. third person and past tense vs. present tense.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to Chalk Outline Confessions getting out to the public?

DL: The first thing that comes to mind is ensuring a fanbase of satisfied readers and holding myself and my writing accountable BEFORE my novels become available to the public. Chalk Outline Confessions already had validity as being a worthwhile novel to read due to the success of my first novel, Over Your Dead Body.

Also, I follow the same format before releasing a novel: write the book, edit the book, add needed detail and fix any “holes” in the storyline, then send the book to my editor (who is very judgmental and has no problems not sparing my feelings!). Finally, I send several drafts and galleys to reviewers in order to gauge the probability of releasing another well-written book worthy of being on the market.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish Chalk Outline Confessions?

DL: My writing process is relatively simple: I write when the mood evokes me. In other words, I do not “force” what is written, thus avoiding a situation in which I am not mentally ready to give my readers my best product. One of the best things about running your own publishing company is the avoidance of writing based on a deadline.

Because I pride myself on developing characters that are universally identifiable with the reader, I often write based on the emotion that I am in. In other words, if a portion of the story calls for a graphically violent or angered individual, I often wait until I am in a mood which is somewhat close to what the character is feeling. Conversely, if the plot or particular part of the story calls for something that evokes happy thoughts or actions, then I too should feel somewhat similar to how the storyline is playing out. In other words – I prefer to become one with the character. So far, its worked to perfection!

I know of many authors that claim to have written their novels in several weeks…if not days. For the reasons stated above, my novel took somewhat longer. Exactly twelve months.

JP: What’s next for David L.?

DL: Up next for David L. is my upcoming novel, My Life Is A Movie. Readers can view a sample excerpt on my website blog at: totalpackagepublications.com/blogspot. Every month, I award one loyal reader to a gift card (of different value and store) just for being supportive of all of my literary endeavors and signing the guestbook that can be found on my website: www.totalpackagepublications.com.

Also coming up is the movie option that has just been approved for my first novel, Over Your Dead Body. The movie will probably begin filming sometime around early 2010. For now, look for me at your local book festival or local bookstore signing copies of any of my aforementioned novels. I’ll continue to say it over and over again…people lie. Reviews don’t! If you doubt any of what I’ve said: google me!

5 Minutes, 5 Questions With… Krystal Waters, author of A Fantastc Opportunity

5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Krystal Waters, author of A Fantastic Opportunity
(Blu Phier Publishing)

krystal waters a fantastic opportunity on amazondotcom

Jack Samson is running for his life. A week ago he started looking for a new job with better benefits and salary. He came across this ad that said,

“A fantastic opportunity for you if you hire on with our company; one of the top 500 fortune. Get that dream house, car and vacation. Stop worrying about bills… you can have it all. We just ask one thing in return, you sell your soul for eternity.”

The extractors came to take his soul. What did they do entirely? Would he be the same? He did not tell his family, but they were just as involved. Trying to get answers he hires a private investigator, who tells Jack he needs a priest. The underworld and all unseen are trying to enslave the people of the world.

The question is, can Jack stop evil at its highest point without getting his family enslaved as well? Can he stop the captivity of all mankind?

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write A Fantastic Opportunity?

Krystal Waters: I was surfing the internet and some how got to a site about selling your soul. I questioned if you could really do it, so I thought I would write about it n the context of the experience of one family. It’s a fiction Thriller/Mystery. I came up with the story about the “what if” scenario and the book came to life.

JP: What sets A Fantastic Opportunity apart from other novels in its genre?

KW: The economy today, the realism in which you can sell your soul and whether it’s fiction or not are some serious factors that makes this novel absolutely intriguing. I think most people who like to read thrillers also like a little mystery added to the mix to make them wonder.

The names of the people are fictitious, however, there is a lot of undeniable truth in A Fantastic Opportunity. It’s not the type of book you want your ten year old to read. It takes a mature mind to separate the truth from fantasy.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to A Fantastic Opportunity getting out to the public?

KW: I network with people online using websites like myspace. There is also Facebook and other places where an author can get the word out and have success. There is also a lot of tenacity that you have to have. You can not give up.

You have to show publishers that you are serious about your product. You do this by working hand to hand with your publisher, going on book signings and also talking to people about your book. There is a lot of work behind the scenes of selling a book, which most authors learn after they get published. For instance, you may need to go on a T.V. show or go to a book reading. Book signings and word of mouth are also important. Get with the readers association if you can and have them read your book. Libraries are a little harder to get in, but when you are, that’s a great way of selling yourself.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take for you to start and finish A Fantastic Opportunity?

KW: I surf through the internet looking for conspiracies and ideas. There is so much on the internet that a genre of my type is an ongoing experience. If it attracts me, I’ll write about it. Second, the book took me about a year to write. My twin sister passed away while I was half way through. I didn’t pick up the book until later. Friends and family encouraged me to continue. The book is dedicated to my twin sister.

Question 5: What’s next for Krystal Waters?

KW: I have a book with another publisher that is in the works. I’ll be doing more writing and make a name for myself. Hopefully I’ll get a fan base, so my other books will sell. This next book is called Charlotte and Henry’s, Stairway to Hell. It’s more of a Comedy/Horror, which I hope will make people laugh and want to read more of the series.

Jeanine, a sexy yet lonely young woman meets the man of her dreams on the Internet. When she meets Jeff, she believes that her prayers have been answered…finally. They date by email, text, and cell phone for three months before deciding to meet face-to-face at a popular motel called The RestStop. Jeff promises to fulfill her darkest fantasies.

But, does anyone truly know if the person behind the monitor is who he says he is? What happens when Jeff and Jeanine meet at The RestStop for a night of unadulterated passion?

Follow the clues in this fast-paced psychological thriller that has a surprise around every corner.

Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the idea and inspiration to write The RestStop: Jeff and Jeanine?

M.L. Jacobs: Originally, a friend dared me to extend my writing from inspirational to adult, specifically erotica. What began as a simple sexual situation between two characters became a short story. The short story developed into each character having an intriguing past with memory flashbacks and present-day inner conflicts based on past experiences. The short story easily became a thrilling novel which I am extremely proud of.

JP: What sets The RestStop: Jeff and Jeanine apart from other erotica novels?

MLJ: The RestStop: Jeff and Jeanine is so much more than an erotic novel. It has suspense, mystery, thrills, twists, and great passionate scenes. The main characters are multidimensional, very believable, and either makes the reader love or hate them.

JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that lead to The RestStop: Jeff and Jeanine getting out to the public?

MLJ: Through social networking sites like Myspace, Yahoo, Twitter and others The RestStop: Jeff and Jeanine was introduced to a wide audience. The characters seem to appeal to people on the Internet because they can easily be related to. We all know at least one person who has dated and met people from the Internet.

JP: If you could be one of your characters from past or present novels, who would you be? And why?

MLJ: If I could be one of my characters I would be Blondie from The RestStop because although she has a few hang-ups, she is the most grounded of all of the main characters, making her very believable.

JP: What’s next for M.L. Jacobs?

MLJ: We are finishing up editing on the premier edition of EROS369: An Anthology for Adults which will be released in January 2009 – it contains a sultry 69 erotic short stories and poems in 3 chapters from many of today’s hottest writers. Published by Chaklet Coffee Books.
