Dr. Mary M. Gillam, author of Women Stop the Chase: Let God’s Man Find You (Proverbs 18:22)
(Create Space Publishing)
“Women Stop the Chase” is about healing and restoration in the lives of women worldwide. The book is designed to minister to women who think that God has forgotten them when it comes to relationships.
“Women Stop the Chase” tackles the tough question, “Should Christian women pursue men in relationships?” In discussing this thought-provoking and colossal topic, the book uses Proverbs 18:22, which states, “He who finds a wife, finds a good thing and receives favor of the Lord,” as its foundational text.
This easy-to-read book and accompanying workbook provides a fresh and intriguing look on a topic that has perplexed women for years.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “Women Stop the Chase: Let God’s Man Find You (Proverbs 18:22)”?
Dr. Mary M. Gillam: The inspiration for me to write “Women Stop the Chase” primarily originated from my own journey to understand God’s plan for relationships. However, after discussing this topic with other people, I realize that there are many women who are struggling with their “singleness.”
Based on their feedback and concerns, I wanted to write a book that filled a personal void and provided a trajectory of hope for many women centered in God’s word.
JP: What sets “Women Stop the Chase: Let God’s Man Find You (Proverbs 18:22)” apart from other books in the same genre?
MMG: God is using “Women Stop the Chase” to break “emotional chains” in women’s lives. The positive feedback from the book has been overwhelming.
One lady wrote, “I have truly enjoyed this book by Dr. Gillam. It has given me, as a young woman, a better guide to prepare myself for Him/ my husband whom God has for me. After going through a recent divorce and then getting dumped a year after that, I felt worthless and abused. Yet God has renewed my strength, and I have overcome the redundant Mr. Wrongs. I give all Glory to God!”
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “Women Stop the Chase: Let God’s Man Find You (Proverbs 18:22)” getting out to the public?
MMG: My keys to success are built around several factors: (1) believing God for supernatural favor during the release of “Women Stop the Chase”, (2) utilizing successful marketing strategies to promote this book, (3) taking advantage of social media outlets to advertise, (4) maintaining a current web presence, and (5) taking advantage of God-provided opportunities to promote the book on every level.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish “Women Stop the Chase: Let God’s Man Find You (Proverbs 18:22)”?
MMG: The most rewarding part of being an author is to take a skill that you love and use it to change lives. My writing process consists initially of identifying a need in the public space. Then I develop a written product to address the need. As God gives me ideas to write about, I document them. Afterwards, I develop a timed research and production schedule.
Since I have published other books, the writing process for “Women Stop the Chase” was rather mild. I had the topic for this book several years ago. After completing the research, including focus groups and an anonymous survey, I allotted time for writing and production. It took approximately three months to write this book.
JP: What’s next for Dr. Mary M. Gillam?
MMG: During my initial book signing events for “Women Stop the Chase”, I had several people to ask if there was an accompanying workbook. I listened to my readers and produced a workbook to accompany the primary text. Many ladies have expressed a desire to make this book a part of their women’s conferences and group bible study.
As a retired military officer and an experienced and seasoned leader, my next project is “The CORE Leadership Development Model: 4 Steps to Releasing Your Leadership Potential.” I am excited about this book, and anticipate releasing it in the next several months.
